Post Bartholin’s Gland and Duct Removal

I'm currently waiting on my referral for my Bartholin's gland and duct excision surgery. I'm very nervous and want to hear from women who have had the procedure. What should I expect? What helped your recovery and what didn't? I live alone but my neighbor will be helping take care of me after the surgery. Should I try and find someone to be with me 24/7? I unfortunately don't have family near by and have limited options for people to help. I'm worried about this honestly.

Hi Alex. This reply might be too late but here goes. I had the same surgery and it was the best decision I've made. I had it on a Monday and I was back to work one week later, the following Monday. I live with my mother so she helped with preparing meals and passing ice packs. What really helped me was ice packs around the clock. Literally change the pack as soon as it melts completely. It helped with the bruising and swelling. I was in pain for about 4 days but nothing worse than the debilitating pain of an infected bartholin's cyst and I took whatever the doctor prescribed. Initially, she prescribed some OTC painkiller but that wasn't helping with my pain. So she prescribed something a bit stronger. For me, the bleeding was like a full period of 5/6 days with some spotting after. Don't be worried. If you can meal prep before surgery and get about three ice packs to rotate, I think that would help. Good luck with your surgery!
