Post BPPV question

Hi everyone my brief history is that I was lying in bed about 10 days ago, propped up having a cuppa and lay down again on my back and the whole room spun and I've never felt so dizzy before. I manageed to sit up and I was OK shortly after shaking my head. This epsisode only laster a minute or so. Anyway, I spoke to GP who said it was bppv. Now, 10 days on I still have very brief episodes of feeling faint or off-balance either when walking or sometimes sitting (very disconcerting). Also get it when reading paper or PC; I kind of have to snap myself out of it. So, the question is, is this normal post bppv symptoms and how long are they likely to last? Thanks

I'm coming up to week 6. Only had spins the first day, went to Dr who said BPPV. Went back 2 weeks later as although no other spins, still doesn't feel right when I'm out and about walking and have a wooshy sensation in head. It's like I'm swaying rather than spins on head movement which is BPPV. MRI booked just to check and then ENT in April. BPPV can last days, weeks and apparently can reoccur. Hope you feel better soon

Thanks for the reply Julie. I also think the added anxiety/ stress after the odd feelings cant help. I read read your head needs time to get back to normal after a bppv. Hope your tests work out OK but hopefully just post bppv symptoms like mine

That's what I'm hoping too and you are right I have anxiety and it's not helping whatsoever. 😢

      Hi Julie,

I used to get BPPV a lot. Here are some tips

      1. If the room starts spinning, then you need to do your excersie

to put the crystal back. It will take a day to recover.

      2. If you do nothing it will take longer for the dizzyness to go away

as the crystal will take time to disolve 1 or more weeks.

      3. If you drink more water and take magnesium capsules thisĀ

will prevent you from getting vertigo in the future.

      Hope this helps

Thanks Gary, good advice. I think what myself and Julie are suffering from is more residual effects of bppv rather than recurrent episodes, not much fun either way

The best way I can describe it (and I've had a bad day at work today) is like been in one of those old fashioned deep sea diving bell helmets that that are heavy and full of water so as the fluid moves you get like a residual wave affect in your head? 🤔

Hi Julie, that is exactly how I am feeling! As if my head was too heavy to follow my body :p I had heavy dizziness three days ago, diagnosed as BPPV (no tests done, just judged by the symptoms..). I did Epley's exercise and now the spinning is gone but I still feel unstable while moving. With constant noise in my ears/ head. I'm also not sure if these are post bppv symptoms or just anxiety...

I don't know either but I'm 6 weeks in and fed up with feeling rough. I've noticed too that symptoms are worse at 'time of month' hence a really bad 3 days recently . I've got ENT appointment in April. I'm thankful no spins since day one so it was BPPV then but don't know what's going on now 😢. It's hard going.

Did the GP prove it was BPPV, by making you lie on your side in front of him/her, and looking at your eyes?

Not all position dependent vertigo is BPPV. Therefore, a clinical examination that I described is necessary.

Oh no....residual symptoms can last months 😩😩. Do you get weird head sensations too David, like wooshing?

Hiya Julie. I wouldn't call it wooshing. If I'm loking at PC wearing my reading glasses I can get very brief episodes of feeling like I need to re-focus and have to 'snap out' of it. When walking I sometimes get the feeling I'm going to stumble (just very fleetingly) or feeling off balance when in a supermarket but not enough to have to hold on to anything. Unfortunately my natural reaction is to tense up causing tight neck muscles and shoulders which must things worse! This happened today and lasted 10 minutes or so but I felt OK later on. I've only had the extreme spinning sensation the once and that was 2 weeks ago. Can't see any value in seeing GP as I can't replicate the problem (luckily for me) but if I get it again I'll book a visit

Hmm, I think since my BPPV spin it's created another issue...all I can do is wait for my appointments...5 weeks away 😢
