Post bunion op

I have had no pain since my op 5 days ago but that's probably as I'm still on pain killers and anti inflammatories. Can anybody tell me if it's ok to wear the Velcro boots just in the morning when I make my breakfast? My legs are elevated 90percent of the time.

I would follow your surgeons advice for post op.  It is easy to overdo it and the first two weeks are crucial in terms of not weight bearing and keeping it elevated.  Try to be patient rather than risking doing damage until your bones are healed. Good luck

Yes Sue84239 is right.  Do not overdo it in the first two weeks - just get food and sit down again.  Rest and keep foot elevated above heart level most of the time.  I didn't weight bear on mine at all in the first two weeks, I used a knee scooter to get around the house which I hired.  They are really good and mine had a basket and cup holder.  I had my bulky dressing removed at the 2 week follow up and now have an elastic splint which is much better and I am flat foot walking in the velcro boot, but again not overdoing it. After the 2 weeks you do need to gradually weight bear by flat foot walking in the boot and not bending the toes up. Also still keep foot elevated when you can. You must do the exercises the hospital recommends to get the toes moving again.

    Hi Sybil

I only wore the Velcro sandals all through my recovery from day one, so I don't think it should be a problem.

I was told to wear the Velcro boot when walking and take it off when resting so that should be fine. I didn't realise you seem to have had both feet done!  Hope you are OK.

    Sybil,

try and borrow a high stool from anyone - at least you can sit down and take the weight of your feet whilst making breakfast/supper etc.

i had both done, and it's impossible to stand for too long on those shoes.

i took them off when sitting down and when in bed. Also try and wiggle your feet/ankles/knees every 5 mins or so, to keep the circulation going and the muscles alive.

Thank you so much for the valuable advice, will def keep it all in mind.   Cant wait for the two weeks to be over to remove the bandages and see my beautiful straight toes!   Many thanks again,

I only wore my wedge shoe when I walked, ie to loo to bed.  All other times well elevated and free.  I'm 4 weeks and it's paid off, as now able to walk without the shoe since 3 1/2 weeks.  I did where the shoe to bed for the first few days, but just for protection against the duvet.
