Post Bunion Surgery Day 1

Posted , 7 users are following.

Just had bunionette surgery yesterday ( pinky toe ). Everything went fine until last night when the anesthetic wore off. The pain was intense and the hydrocodone appeared to do very little. Today naturally the pain is worse. When can I expect it to start to subside? Keeping it elevated and trying to ice it as much as possible but navigating to the freezer is a challenge.

Hi kyle sorry to hear your in pain I think the first couple of days are the worse the best advise I can give you is to keep you foot elevated as high as you can above your heart and keep topped up with your pain killers I know it sounds obvious what I'm saying but it will get easier in the next couple of days I didn't have my foot high enough first couple of days and I really paid for it I hope your feeling better soon .

    Hi,

I am 7 weeks and 3 days post op. I found the pain very difficult to cope with on the second day. It does begin to wear off after a few days though. I agree that the best thing to do is to take pain killers, elevate and ice as much as possible. It  does get easier after a while. Hope that you feel better soon.

Hi Kyle.  Day 2 is bad and the advice has got to be to stay ahead of it with painkillers. Alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen to keep  covered.  I did t suit the stringer pain meds like codeine but know they are great if you can tolerate them. It does get better.

    good luck

Oh, yes, I remember those days. I had a lot of pain the first few days and all though the pain meds didn't take the pain away, it did help, a little. You may have to be taking more pain meds. 2 every 4 hours. The pain will get better, really fast too. I think for me it stopped at about 4-6 days.

I still had a little pain after that, but not like the first few days.

I also experienced severe burning fire feeling on the bottomed of my feet. (Didn't sleep) Not everyone had this pain, but, if you do, it's because the bandage as on too tight and the pressure was on the pinky side of my foot causing a bloody calise.

Your still in the beginning stages of your surgery so expect pain. It may not seem like it now, but it will get better in the next few days. Baby your foot. Not much you really can do but to elevate and ice.. it should start to feel better soon. I promise.

    Wishing you well,

    Jen

I definitely agree to take painkillers regularly. I had Ben advised well when I was told that it is much easier to deal with pain by preventing it from getting too bad rather than trying to get rid of it. I was told to take pain killers even if didn't feel that I needed them in the beginning. I took Paracetomol and Ibruprofen and also codeine in the first week. I alternated the paracetomol and Ibruprofen so that I was taking medication every 2 hours and took the codeine every 4 hours up to max dose. Just drink extra water! Normally I don't like taking pain killers but it certainly did the trick! Good luck
