I have long Covid with shortness of breath and palpitations on exertion for 5 months off sick. i have chronic fatigue yesterday my doctor prescribed me Fluoxetine and told me not to think of it as an antidepressant. Apparently it is prescribed to patients with my symptoms. Has anyone else been prescribed it for chronic fatigue post Covid? if so does it work?

I’m not a doctor so have no idea if this meds has been taken for long Covid - but I’d seriously not take it for that. I think it will give you more than you bargain for on top of what you’re already suffering from. I know a few people have been prescribed this type of meds for other ailments other than anxiety / depression and ended up with anxiety itself.
SSRI’s are quite difficult to take and they will heighten (if not give you) anxiety to start with. If you’ve never had anxiety (and I mean clinical anxiety) then just don’t go there.
I'd speak to your doctor again.
