Post-Exercise Neck Pains - what should I do?

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi, in recent weeks, I've begun running for the first time in 9 years. After a couple of weeks, I did 3 early-morning 10k runs in 8 days and pain started kicking in in my neck and head. I was instructed by a GP to reduce the running to max 6.5K, but even so, my neck and head now hurt so much whenever my head is farther forward than my neck (e.g. while using a laptop, at night with my head on a pillow, while looking down etc). Can anyone recommend neck exercises that could help? Thank you! X

I had the same pain but mine was due to OA, Stenosis and bulging discs.

I would first see an Orthopedic doc who specializes in Cervical Spine issues just to make sure everything was okay!

There's a lot of exercises online at youTube.

Just enter 'neck strengthening exercises' and you should find a few good ones there!

But please check with a specialist first just to rule out anything else. Bulging discs could be pressing on your spine causing that pain and sometimes numbness and tingling too. So just check before you start exercising so you don't do any damage to your neck.

I know how that pain feels so I can sympathize with you!

    Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you. I'll get it checked again, it's just every time the head's forward. Doctors confirmed that it must be muscular. Thank you!
