Post GreenLight Laser Surgery Recovery

I had GL surgery four days ago and would appreciate feedback regarding the recovery process from those that have also undergone this procedure. I currently void every 30 to 60 minutes at night and every 30 to 60 minutes during the day. My flow is a stream for a few seconds then dribbles for maybe 30 seconds. Is this pretty typical? After the surgery I was drinking 1 1/2 liters of water per day but I may reduce this because I am not convinced my bladder is emptying fully. What do you think about this? When I void, it really burns at first and often I will get bladder spasms as well. Do you think the pain is radiated pain from where the prostate was vaporized? Do you think I will see improvement with these symptoms on a daily basis or weekly basis over the next month or so?

I am 63 and underwent the biopsy, then cystoscopy and two week later the Greenlight laser TURP. My GL was Feb 2020 and on Feb 5th 2021...my prostate shutdown and I had to go to ER for catheter. I am bummed..however it took from Feb 20, 2020 until April 9th for me to urinate on my own as I went in every week post surgery for Cath removal to see If I could vacate...finally 7 fulls weeks after surgery I was able to vacate on my own but here is what happened...the mental part told me not to drink to much as I was afraid I would not vacate...so I caused myself to dehydrate and It would burn as I urinated...my advice is to drink at least 80 ounces a day to make sure you are hydrated otherwise you are creating a problem with your prostate...I know it's difficult and I know the mental part... I was butchered for 5 weeks with the three procedures so after the GL I landed in hospital with the big gauge flusher as my bladder was flushed for 2 days...a bloody mess

I had Green Light on 2/2/21, so I'm a week and half out at the time of this post. I'm peeing about once an hour, its much less painful than the first few days. Good stream, dribbles at the end with some burning, but feels as if its not completely empty. My biggest issue the past week is the near constant feeling that my rectum is full or open, not really painful as much as uncomfortable. Have been having regular bowel movements, just hoping this is the healing prostate I'm feeling and not an actual bowel issue.

    Hello Jim,

i had GL six weeks ago. There was a lot of blood in my urine for 3 weeks then it stopped. SO drinking a lot of water helps clear out the toxins. Yes to pain while urinating. The flow has improved for sure. I had huge headaches for a couple weeks not sure how it was related? Retrograde/dry ejaculation is not great, strange sensation which the surgeon dont talk much about.

Hi, my husband had same treatment a week ago. Unfortunately he bled lots at end procedure but gather this is rare. He is having lots of incontinence just now. Sometimes he feels the urge to go and then can't. Other times he passes a good amount. He is also complaining of backache and a sore penis tip. Hopefully things will improve soon.

Had the GL two weeks ago. The procedure was quick and virtually pain-free. Fantastic results already: dramatically improved stream, with very little side effects - some blood in urine, slight burning. No incontinence, pain, dribbling...nothing. I can sleep through the night!

I am a new man. Cannot recommend it too highly.

I am a male, 56 years old diagnosed with BPH.

I had green light laser prostate surgery two weeks ago.

After the surgery I was put on a catheter for 2 days.

When the catheter was removed, I was told by the nurse to drink lots of fluids

and that if I could not pee on my own in 6 hours the nurse would return and

install the catheter for 5 more days!

I was able to pee within 1 hour of catheter removal.

Lots of blood in urine, but the flow was incredible. The blood stopped

coming after 12 days, but I do see a few drops now and then.

I have forgotten what if felt like to completely empty my bladder.

I haven't felt this feeling in 5 years! A wonderful sense of relief!

The doc prescribed an antibiotic to take twice a day for a week.

I was drinking lots of water, sometimes apple juice and pomegranate juice every

hour and had no trouble peeing. I wanted to ensure that I would not be constipated so I ate

lots of organic prunes every day.

The first time I had a bowel movement, I tried to push too hard and blood exited around the catheter tube on to the toilet seat. After eating the prunes, bowel movements were easy, and slid right out without having to push very hard.

After 7 days on the antibiotics ended, the sense of urgency returned and

I am now waking up 5 - 6 times to pee during the night, therefore I am not getting

a good night's sleep. The flow is now like it was before the surgery. (very little)

And I can feel that my bladder is not empty after I urinate.

I think I only felt relief (empty bladder) a few times after surgery

primarily when there was a lot of blood coming out with the urine a

    few days after the surgery.

This has me worried that things have returned to exactly the way they were

    before the surgery.

I know it has only been two weeks, and I am hoping someone will re-assure me that

    this will get better.

I have been going on short bicycle rides to ease stress. The bicycle seat I have

is a saddle and does not hurt when I sit down like a regular bicycle seat.

The doctor doesn't respond to any questions, he just told his secretary to tell me to wait

    the full 6 weeks.

Please post your experience, I am hoping this is just a temporary setback and that

the surgery was not a waste of time for me.

Thank you in advance and stay well!

    Hi,

i had my GLL procedure today about 10 hours ago.

i read most of the posts here, thank you for sharing.

was tossing between Gold standard TURP or GLL.

got a second opinion from another specialist who only does TURP as i was leaning toward that, then emailed my Urologist and told him the more i dig into it, the more i am confused.

He answered all my question via email, which i'll post here too.

i knew i had to have it due to frequent visits to the toilet day or night and i was fed up with it.

As i had to go to Hospital for another check up ( 5th visit in the past 3 years) for TCC in the bladder, then a week ago decided to go ahead with GLL as well.

ok, so far have a catheter ( yay, don't have to wake up tonight to visit the loo 😉 )

Just got out of my bed 15 min ago with help for a quick walk and brush my teeth.

A bit touch sensitive down there, and not much drowsy anymore.

have drank 1 lit of water so far with another 4-5 small cup of tea and other beverage.

    so far so good.

if it helps anyone, more than happy to share my experience through this journey.

    I am 54 for another 2 month,

plant Based / Vegan for the past 4 years or so.

Haven't been very active recently or in general, however going to use this op as a reason to change that and commit to a daily exercise routine.

    cheers

Oh, i asked my surgeon to give me a video of the Op. He asked me to bring a USB!

    Haven't checked it yet 😃

ok, last night couldn't sleep much at all.

i wasn't really tired, probably because i was so drowsy and in and out of sleep post Op yesterday.

i had couple of mini erection which was painful while there is a catheter inside.

This morning the tube was pulled out which was very uncomfortable for a few second.

see how i go passing urine on my own.
