post haemorrhoidectomy bowel movement size?

its been 7 days since the op. No pain to speak of, discharge is minimal. My concern is BM size. Before the op they were brown and had a

sizeable girth.

Post op they are orange (probably the Fybogel drink) but a lot narrower. We are talking the cross section of a thumb. Passing them takes a lot of effort, particularly when the mantra is "don't strain". Problem I the pressure bearing dow

the problem is the pressure at the small of my back. It's not ignorable and when I do pass a BM then I still feel there is more to come. Invariably there is 30 minutes later and it takes a full 3 hours or so to empty the bowels in stages.

luckily there is no pain but I was wondering if there was anybody else in the same boat?

Spent most of the day watching old episodes of Doctor Who I'm afraid. Not much in the way of housework. I've got an awesome wife who if looking after me and keeping the kids out of the way. School starts again in two days time and I feel guilty for not being there for the kids in the lessons

My weight is pretty stable. Was 13.5 stone, dropped to 13. Which is still overweight, nice to get down to 12. Maths teacher 11-18, half term has just finished and told the school I would need another 2 weeks after that. I hope I am correct.

Hope you make that target! I was a teaching assistant for 20 years. I am profoundly deaf and worked with children using BSL from nursery to 18. I've seen it all! Lol. E.

Hello Wiseman , hope things improving for you . In my experience ( 4 banding procedures , 3 arterial ligations , and 1 haemorrhoidectomy ) , what you are experiencing is not unusual . Im my humble opinion everything in the lower bowel rectum area becomes bruised and swollen after a procedure and the narrowing does mean thinner stools , thats why its so important to keep them soft with lactulose and laxatives . I think that we are more sensitive down there which seems to send us to the toilet the minute we feel the slightest pressure , meaning we go so much more often . I would say as long as you are going regular , and as long as movements are soft , dont worry at all . Can I ask , what procedure did you get ?

    Regards.

I had an haemorrhoidectomy about 8/9 days ago. The laser scalpel one where they cut and burn at the same time to stop excess bleeding. The pain is gone pretty much. Just have this overpowering urge to poo on waking for about 5 hours. From the afternoon until I go to sleep everything is as it was pre-op though.

Mr Sorebutt, reading the procedures you have had, you've earnt your name.

I was worried about stenosis but they aren't pencil thin like other people's and maybe they'll bulk back out over time. All movements are soft, and I'm more than regular, 9-10:30 is almost non stop poop time, with a quick reasonable one in the evening. I'm so glad they aren't painful, just exhausting and time consuming. Maybe if I cut down on the fybogel to one sachet a day and see what happens?

I was just hoping for a bit of light as this tunnel seems a bit longer than I thought after a few bad mornings.

Seems yours isnt so bad bud . Anything inside the first two weeks is certainly too soon to tell . You are definately right about cutting back on the Fybogel if your visits to the toilet are regular or better , and if youre stools are soft . Even splitting the pack and taking half dose , and you can always step it back up if required .

It has been 6 weeks since my last op , and been re-admitted to hospital three times since , and am due to go back into theatre in 10 days time , to find out what has gone wrong with mine this time . This last experience has been the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life , six weeks of hell on earth . So keep your chin up , could be worse lol .
