Post-herpetic neuralgia?? I'm desperate

Hi, I had an herpes simplex type 1 in April, more than six months ago. It was very painful and it itched a few days before the symptoms appeared. The treatment with Valaciclovir healed vulvar ulcers, but I continued to feel stinging, itchy and burning until now. During the summer it has been worse, but now I still feel all these symptoms. When I walk more than 5 minutes or I do sport or sex it becomes painful. I’m completely desperate. Please, any idea or advice is welcome.

im male and to be honest im fighting a similar battle. No doctors believe me that my symptoms are herpes related, as apparently herpes pops up and goes. Been 18 months for me and im
struggling.

This horrible. As I mentioned in my reply, inquire to your doctor for an Amitriptyline treatment.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I know there are different type of antidepressants and they have to find the one that suits you. Of course, feeling no joy doesn't help at all. Maybe look into alternative options like hypnosis (for anxiety and pain).

hey, so sorry you're going through this.
i had my first outbreak almost 2 months ago (finding out next week which type)
I had an initial outbreak , then around one month later i had a spot and tingle which lasted for just 2 days which was clealy my second outbreak (thankfully very easy)
i had some itching in-between, since my second OB started i went onto suppression treatment.
i havent felt anything since, its only been 2 weeks on them but really feel they work, i do want to come off them to see how my body reacts which i am going to do next month when i am away from my fella for a while.
I know not everyone likes the idea of daily medication (I don't myself) but i think whilst i get used to living with this condition its a good way to take the edge off whilst coming to terms with it / body learns to cope with it better?
xx

Hi, some people experience residual neurological pain after an outbreak. Just as you mentioned, neuralgia and hyperaesthesia. It can be treated with a low dose of antidepressant. You should inquiry about a prescription of Amitriptyline to your doctor. It's a 4 weeks treatment. Hang in there.

Thanks everyone for your explanations and advices! I've heard about Amitriptyline, but I haven't tried yet. I'm collecting information about vulvodinia and about chronic pain and how it works (Lorimer Moseley). There are many different treatments and I'm looking for the right professional... Thanks and courage, we will heal 😃

I'm currently using Medihoney for an other condition but I've read in the reviews that a woman uses the Medihoney burn and antiseptic Gel for her post-herpetic neuralgia and it has done wonders for her. It might be worthed a try!
