Post laminectomy leg pain

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had laminectomy and discectomy because of disc prolapse L5S1. 3 days after my surgery, I started having severe burning pain and numbness on my left foot, worse at night. The symptoms were not there before surgery. I called my surgeon who told me to take some pain tablets. It is now 2 wks post op and the pain and numbness still persist. Am a bit worried if a nerve is damaged during surgery or is it just normal to feel like this post op.

    Sylvester 74555,

So sorry for your pain and discomfort! I've had 6 back surgeries in the past 10 yrs. In pain on a regular basis and know what your going through.

After all this is the pain down both my legs, mostly on my right side.

I would, if you can get another Dr to review & read your reports.

Now I'm dealing with spinal stenosis and nerve damage. They want to upgrade my back stimulator, I feel that will or may alleviate some of the pain, but the spinal stenosis isn't getting any better, and their just putting another bandaid on my spine.

Painkillers, I have to take just to get into a shower every morning before I start my day!

Hang in there and pls keep your chin up and seek further help.

I'm going for a 3rd opinion. The only good thing is the company I work for is allowing me to work from home.

Don't settle for this and we shouldn't have to settle for what they say is ok, normal, etc. What is good for one, isn't good for you. We may all bleed the same, but our bodies heal and take thing's differently.

    Sylvester74555,

Please get more answers cause I had the same and now I have permanent damage to the left leg because the dr told me there was nothing wrong with me it was that my disc exploded on to my nerves and caused such burning sensation i ended up with a drop foot and damaged left leg pain, so what happened is that I had to have a ganhlionectomy which the dr tried to put the nerves back together but it didn't work so at least I have no burning sensation anymore

    Take care

I am sorry my friend but you may never get better as a mattef of fact you may get even worse. Number one I think you should have a second opinion and number 2 Physical Therapy may help I doubt it but use it as an aesthetic purpose and then see how you do. If you are overweight I would suggest some sort of exercise plan and diet but most of all you may have to come to grips that this is the way it's going to be having surgeries over and over again is not good at all. They may be able to alleviate some pain by a second surgery but therefore it could be creating more pain in other areas that's why I said having a second opinion. But take it easy if you are on any type of narcotic medicine I suggest you to minimize that as much as you can. Go to some sort of anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxer just for pain relief or some sort of pain relief. I'm not saying narcotic medicine you shouldn't use it but you may wind up with more of a severe problem and I'd rather for you to take your time doing that. No Chiropractors
