Post Menopausal

I'm really struggling to understand if I'm post menopausal! I've not had a period for nearly 12 months. No hot sweats or side affects. I've recently had my FSH levels done which has come back at 146 post menopausal! Really shocked to find out that I've gone through the menopause. Can this be right?

Thank you in advance

Sure! We all react differently so you may be lucky. But our hormone levels fluctuate well past menopause, so you might still get symptoms. I got hot flashes but that was about it. I still get them about 3 years or more post menopause. But I didn't get any of the other things I read about here.

If you have had no period for 12 months then yes you are menopause

Absolutely this is right.  The fact that you haven't had a period for nearly 12 month, tells you your ovaries are not functioning normally.  A full year is with no period is considered menopause.  It's the only diagnosis that is done looking back.

Your brain is still pushing off FSH to encourage your ovaries to produce estradiol. The fact that your FSH is so incredibly high, shows that your ovaries aren't "puttin out the goods" so your brain screams louder "Hey gals, I'm asking for estrogen and you're NOT LISTENING".  But it isn't a matter of listening, they simply can't anymore.

Here's the bad news.  I too thought that menopause was just a breeze.  I didn't have any hot flashes or night sweats, none of the standard stuff.  Though I was the "really lucky" woman.  Little did I know what was ahead.  Chronic muscle and ligament pain, vaginal atrophy and dryness, elevated cholestrol, fatigue, poor sleep.

So should you be surprised you are in menopause, not really.  Should you know that sometimes woman don't have the standard stuff, absolutely.  But does that  mean you are not going to experience body changes, guess again.  It's amazing what those hormones (or lack there of) actually do.

I wouldn't totally rule it out. My friend thought she was in post menopause cause she didn't have her period for over a year and then just it started again. Hopefully you won't get it back and are done with it all. You would be one lucky girl.

Thank you all. I don't sleep very well so I suppose this must be to do with menopause! Sounds like I've a lot more to come 😒 Hope not....

Hi Lucky lady, lol.  Yep, if your homones and one year of lack of a period say so, you are post menopausal.

    Hope you keep this lucky!

Same thing happened to me. I had lots of tests because the doctor said I couldn't ovulate since I was in menopause. Had me worried. In the end, she found nothing wrong and said it was an estrogen surge. But no ovulation after menopause. I really couldn't find any research on that subject and wish there was more info.
