Post menopausal bleeding, hysteroscopy and biopsy

Hi everyone

I’m 45 and until a couple of weeks ago hadn’t had a period for a year. I randomly had few days of spotting/ light bleeding so as I was classed as post menopausal was referred to hospital on the 2 week pathway.

All blood tests and swabs have come back fine but today when I attended my appointment I was unable to proceed with the hysteroscopy as I found it too painful ( I’m a massive wimp with stuff like that anyway) . My consultant suggested I come back for a general anaesthetic to have it done which I’m happy about.

All I was able to have done was my internal scan. The consultant said I would need a biopsy almost as soon as he began the scan which has really frightened me thinking he seen something terribly wrong right away.

Anyone had a similar experience? What was the outcome? So frightened. Would be very interested to hear your experiences! All answers appreciated xx

    hi

I had a hysteroscopy 3 weeks ago. Yes it was painful the letter said the procedure was 5-10mins! Mines lasted 30mins! I ended up being at the hospital for 3 hours!

During the procedure they just put some anthestic in my womb! But as the camera went in it felt like cramps! then taking out the polyp then the biopsy was felt like cramps.

As soon as it finished I was given antibiotics and I started feel nauseous and sweating loads. It past though and the nurses were brilliant!

honestly you'll be fine and relived once it's done.

It was all clear! mines was due to pain and heavy periods. But my Dr got it wrong sending me for a CA125 test whilst on my period! I was sent on the 2 week pathway too.

The gynecologist seemed annoyed as nothing was wrong and I feel as though it was a complete waste of NHS time. If your scan is fine no need for biopsy.

they took mines as a polyp was found on my uterus

Thankyou Sandeep, so helpful to hear someone elses experiences with this. I wish id been as brave as you with my hysteroscopy! So pleased yours came back clear. Must be such such a relief. Do you need any follow up appointments or were you discharged as soon as it was clear? xx

Yes the gynecologist called me after 2 weeks, which was last week to say all clear. Also if my periods are still getting in the way of my life as they are really heavy then they'll do another procedure under GA.....thank goodness

Honestly I thought the hyperscopy was going to be a breeze! I wouldn't do it again!

Good luck and you'll have peace of mind.
