Hi Christine.
I believe I am classed as post menopausal. I am 51 and have not had a period for 4 years. My sleep pattern appears to have gone from 8 hours solid sleep to sleeping about 4 hours then being woken by a hot flush and having to throw the covers off. I do not take any medication currently and my intention is to try and ride this storm as naturally as possible for as long as possible. I have been emotional; hot headed. had painful joints.; dizzy head; fog brain; pain in left side ribs/breast; and change to skin/hair condition.
Oh and deteriorated eye sight/blurry vision!!! We have to go through so much as women and there just isn't the help/advice out there to support us. that is why we are all so grateful for this site π

Hi christine, I am going to be 42. chronic migraine and was diagnosed with vestibular migraine for which I take nortriptyline (not helping yet). I saw my obgyn today and she offered me HRT (my FSH was 170, and she does not think I will be having anymore periods)...last period was early Jan. of course..."as long as I understand the risks involved". She was reluctant because of my migraines and family history of heart disease.
I am glad you posted this...very eye opening, thank you!

Hi Lou! I was told that there are no risks under 50 and it is vital for our health not to let our body without estrogen at such a young age. i am 43 and 2 years on hrt.

thanks Vicky, the scales are tipping towards HRT for me. If I sit and think of all the stuff I could die from...then I am not really living!

So true Lou! For me the quality of my life is a priority and hrt is a very important help for me! It only replaces the hormones we should have until at least 50.

Hi Christine, my mom is 78 and can run circles around me. She was pretty normal, meno at 51 lots of hot flashes, otherwise pretty uneventful. She took a soy vitamin, I believe and got by. I am getting bombarded. I was Birth control for 20 years, when I stopped it at 40,all my problems started, then got worse once I started missing periods.
Did you start HRT at 42? Did the migraine with aura happen recently...How long were you on HRT before you were taken off?
I am taking nortriptyline for migraine prevention and to help with my vestibular symptoms. It is still early and my neuro is working with me to find my target dose. Side effects have been minimal and I am very sensitive to meds. I am going to try HRT for a bit, if I see no benefit, then I will discontinue it. Just terrible that we have to make all of these choices and research treatments...making ourselves sick with worry.

hi never had migraines until i started hrt..i was on it 8 mths..my periods had already stopped at 42..and i went on hrt a yr later orginally to protect my bones ..not for flushs etc as i never had any of them...i was absolutely petrified when i arrived at a and e..my head felt like it was going to explode and i was bent right over as i couldnt stand straight..i remember my arms being numb and thinking i was going to die..so its deffo something i cant take..ive never had a migraine like that since..i get occasional headache but who doesnt..deffo agree choices we have to make over our health..only thing i really suffer from recently is ectopics and occasional insomnia xxx

Migraines are scary indeed! My left foot went numb once before an attack and my body was tingly....which then led to a battery of tests for MS, etc. My gyno kept zeroing in on my night sweats...I told her they were the least of my issues! I have heard the sticky crap on the patches can cause allergic reactions...I am def more sensitive now...cannot wear eye makeup unless I want itchy red eyelids, which goes nicely with my dark circles! Take good care! π

I am 6 years into surgical menopause. Today I told my doctor that if my migraines couldn't be eased after trying every tablet available I couldn't go on. There is no point to my life anymore. I can't see properly, need a Walker to get around and am in constant horrendous pain. My life is effectively over.
