Post nasal drip

I am a newcomer so please forgive me if I am in the wrong subject group. For many years now I have suffered a constant Post Nasal Drip - mucous running down the back of my throat. If I lean forward my nose runs - if I lean back it runs into my throat and upper lungs. At night it gathers in my upper lung and I spend much of the morning coughing it up. When I blow my nose sometimes there is a slight mist of blood on the handkerchief. My doctor is not interested - I have tried anti histamines - I have never smoked - I am not short of breath - My ears click as normal when I swallow - An occasional outburst of sneezing. It is just becoming so embarrassing, needing to constantly wipe my nose at the dinner table, and coughing for most of the morning, fortunately I have a very understanding partner. Please can anybody offer some advice.

I've been having this exactly the same thing for years I went to ANT doctor and he said he will check one thing at a time starting with acid reflux he sent me 6 weeks of acid blocker and then go back to see him. Let's pray for each other..

Hi John, I really feel for you as i experienced the same thing for years. I had a turbinate coblation done a week ago (cauterisation of the inferior turbinate). I have suffered for years with post nasal drip and swollen turbinates and even though I am still healing and nose is a bit stuffy I can tell that the surgery has been a success as I can definitely breathe better and my post nasal drip has dried up so much. My post nasal drip was so bad after eating that i would have to excuse myself from the table to go and cough! it was horrendous. I could never plan work calls for early morning either as i would be so hoarse. I tried everything to cure it: antihistamines, cough syrups, saline plus machine, saline spray and neti pots.. all at a lot of expense! plus numerous trips to the dr to be handed more and more sprays... when i went to see the consultant he told me these are addictive and i shouldnt be using anything..

I was so fed up and actually quite down because of it as it made me avoid going out for dinner/socialising, which i used to love. It had a massive impact on my life. To try and cure it i did a septoplasty and had high hopes but it had no impact on the post nasal drip (much to my disappointment).

For me the coblation surgery has so far been lifechanging as my voice was constantly hoarse due to post nasal drip and i was always coughing. I would definitely recommend it and the recovery afterwards hasnt been too bad in all honesty. Hope you feel better soon!
