Post nasal drip/mucus in throat, psychosomatic?

Anyone suffered from thick mucus on throat, mainly coming from the nose without any medical explanation? My life is ruined because of the complaints I have and doctors call it psychosomatic or a somatization disorder! For me this doesn´t make sense! It´s not like I have a globus sensation in my throat! It´s thick, sticky and clear mucus that also interfers with sleeping cause of stufiness!... Anyone with similar experience?

Don't let anyone bully you into thinking it's "all in your head". Especially when you have physical symptoms. Have you had allergy testing done? Make sure you do food allergy testing too, very important as the modern engineered wheat, corn and soy are very problematic to many people (Celiac etc.), and as the saying goes, you are what you eat. I've heard that dairy can cause similar symptoms. Make sure you stay hydrated as dehydration can cause stuff to thicken up. If you live in a very dry climate, a humidifier at night might help.

Hi Lisa! I have tried different sprays with no effect! Tried to exclude food I might be allergic to, also been tested for allergies! One important and extremly sad thing is that my symtoms get far worse from physical activity, even a ten minutes walk! I underline not under the act , cause I wouldn't bother but afterwards and the up coming 24 hours! The blood tests do not conclude any autoimmune disease or hormonal problems! Haven't been to endocrinologist! Recently I've developed pain right side abdomen under the ribs and the ribs it self! It's also stinging pain on left side cheek(sinuses) I assume where the secretion is mainly from! The same side that also gets stuffed! Should I take a biopsy in order to exclude any tissue problems? Could it be a connective tissue disease? Could it be hormonal problem that needs closer examination? Anyone?? Please, this is seriously a nightmare!!!

My last comment is still waiting to be moderated - I think it had info about electrolytes and Mast Cell problems and allergies but I can't remember what I wrote. Mast Cell problems are not autoimmune in nature. One food sensitivity that I frequently hear causes thick mucus is dairy (milk, butter, cheese, etc.). Did your allergy testing include food allergies? Have you been evaluated by an Ear Nose and Throat specialist? Any imaging like a CT or MRI to see the sinus cavities?

I have read some stuff about anxiety causing PND...so I actually am going to go see a psychiatrist thinking I can maybe take some lexapro and see if it helps. I notice that when I am with my friends or hiking or doing something where my mind is preoccupied, it is not in the back of my throat, so maybe it does have something to do with it?

I am curious if you found a solution. I have been vegan for six years, and I focus on organic and high raw plus supplements when needed. I have anxiety and wonder if it's hormone triggered. But so far, nothing is helping. Every time I get an anxiety attack, I feel like I'm getting the flu. But my body temp is hovering around 97 and sometimes even lower!

Hi Sam, I’m having exactly the same thing for weeks. My throat feels tight, whenever I swallow it feels like glue stuck in my back throat. The mucus is clear(if I’m lucky enough to hack it up but it comes back right away) My mouth also feels super dry and sticky. It affected my eating and drinking and my appetite went completely away. I did an ENT endoscopy, found nothing. I also DON’T have any symptoms for sinusitis or rihinitis such as runny nose, sneezing, etc., just the mucus...and I can differ it from a Globus Sensation because it feels so sticky...I really don’t know what to do next maybe go see another ENT or test for Sjögrens?
Are you better now? Did you find anything to help?
