Post op ankle issue

My 19 year old daughter had laparoscopic surgery to strengthen her over stretched, thinned out, too loose ankle ligament because she kept rolling and re injuring herself. The surgeon drilled into the bones and basically tightened and reinforced the places where the ligament attaches to the bone. She's been recovering pretty well. Things looked good at her 1 week and 2 week follow up. Surgeon said she could start to do some weight bearing as tolerated but to keep the boot on when trying to walk. She's been compliant with that. She did more walking yesterday, but it wasn't excessive. She's now 18 days post op. Tonight she was sitting on the couch, wearing her boot, when she just moved her foot, heard a pop, and started having intense pain. I'm thinking this isn't normal. Any idea what might have happened? She took ibuprofen and is still in a lot of pain, though it's now feeling better as long as she doesn't move.

If you had the surgery in the United States, call the doctor immediately.

I also had that surgery about 5 weeks ago. I haven't had the symptoms you described. I agree with the previous post that you should contact your surgeon.
