Post-op anterior/posterior repair problems :(

Hi, I'm 16 days post-op from cystocele and rectocele repair surgery. I'm 50 and in good physical shape. I've been having some horrendous complications and was wondering if someone could tell me what is normal and what to be concerned with. My surgeon's office has brushed me off but agreed to see me early during week 4.

My main concern is this purplish-red ring around my urethral opening and constant pain there. It hurts even more to empty my bladder, especially towards the end of draining. There is also a bulge of tissue between my urethral opening and my vagina. This bulge wasn't there for the first several days. I got some antibiotics from Urgent Care for a possible bladder infection a week ago, but didn't take them because I don't have the typical symptoms. However, after increased urethral pain I decided to take them 1.5 days ago. So far, I feel no different. This doesn't seem normal to me but I don't know what to do.

My other concern is passing clots, followed by gushes of bright red blood. Today, day 16, was the worst. I passed a large clot that was about the size of 2 grapes. I only passed one other clot before but it was small. I've taken a few short walks but today i have done nothing except a bit of bending over. Has anyone had clots and bleeding past the 2 week mark? Where the heck are they coming from? I was told by my nurse at the hospital to start walking within a few days. I didn't go outside for a walk until day 10.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like this board is dead. Thought I would reply to myself in the rare case that someone with a similar situation might read this.

Saw my surgeon yesterday. Today is 4 weeks post-op.Basically, menopause is working against me. A lack of estrogen is causing weakness around the urethra. The bulging may improve slightly by taking an estrogen supplement vaginally. By the sounds of it, I'm stuck with it. Also, I'm a slow healer (again, thank you menopause) so my dissolving stitches are taking longer to fall out. Got the go ahead to return to work at week 6. Sexual relations not recommended for another month or so.

I'm 3 weeks post cystocele/rectocele repair. I've noticed what I diagnosed myself with as a urethrocele. sounds like what you have. I'm a bit devastated. I thought I was fixing things but turns out It added a problem. Two steps forward, one step back!

oh girls:( how awful this is!!!

I'm 10 days post op and idk if the surgery worked and wont know til my post op...hopefully I'll know.

i too am a slow healer...took me 2 years to FULLY heal from the hysterectomy and then 7 months later, I had cystocycle and rectocele surgery.

I feel like I STILL have the rectocele...I know I'm swollen...but...it feels the same as before surgery.

I'm so sorry to hear you're not doing well. I think at 10 days I also still felt swollen which is why i looked. I'm not sure you would be able to see a rectocele if it was still there. My cystocele was very noticeable. Please try to remain calm until you see your doctor. I know it's hard. Many people have said they feel like the surgery didn't work in the beginning of healing. I pray that's all it is for you.
