Hi,

Can anyone advise me as to if after 12 days after my keyhole op i should start to bleed?

I was fine after the op with very little blood loss but yeaterday when i went for a wee i noticed blood on the paper! During the night it has got heavier. It is very worrying and according to the net it can be quite normal but i wondered if any of you lady's had the same problem.

Hello Chris, I bleed about 4 weeks post op. They call it pooled blood. It's nothing to worry about, unless it's bright red and very very heavy. I ended up back in hospital, for 3 days, they had to operate again to check everything ok and stop the bleeding.

i must stress, that I had a bad one. I had to go back to surgery after my op due to bleeding.

If in doubt call your hospital doctor where you had the op done.

They will tell you best. Rest up. Feet up, I know it's hard.

if your bleeding lots go A& E. But defo speak to your surgeon.

Thank you so much for your fast reply.

It is only spotting at the moment but it comes as a shock after going 10 day's without loseing any blood.

I have looked through all the leaflets the hospital gave to me but it doesn't mention anything about what to do in such cases.

I will phone the hospital latter to put my mind at rest.

I have found another site on the net and the problem does seem quite common.

      Once again thanks.

Hi Christine, although I had vaginal hysterectomy (just over four weeks ago), I have had exactly the same problem as you.  I started to bleed after 2-3 weeks.  It has now decreased again to almost nothing.  I am not sure what caused it, but possibly a normal part of the healing process, or the stitches dissolving.  However, perhaps also our bodies telling us to take it easy.. It may be no coincidence that after a couple of weeks people start to forget that you're still convalescing and we start to do too much?  Good luck.

      Thank you Kathy,

I have just telephoned the hospital and she has confirmed what you say.

If it should turn into a heavy bleed then i have to phone back!

It is a worrying time and every little change is noticed being as we have time on our hands.

I am [in my eye's] not over doing it but who knows!

      Chris.

This is very good news Chris, and hopefully the bleeding will settle really soon.  xx

I didn't but they told me I could when the internal stitches disolved - if I was worried I would give the ward or my GP a quick call

I have just spoken to a nurse and she said it is natural so once again i am not going to worry!

      Thank you

      Chris.
