post op check up at 6 weeks

Was a bit scared of going to consultant today I think even more so than going in for the op...I have had no physio and have just got on with what they gave me on the sheet and some from you lovely lot on here and also internet...my knee is still quite bent and I thought bend not good so was expecting talk of an MUA and seeing as he said he has never had to do one it would be just my luck to be his only let down lol....well what a surprise bend is just past 90° and he said the only reason the knee is not fully straight when standing up yet is due to how much damage there had been done from the years pre op and it takes a while for all to get working properly again...also I have muscle wastage and he will get me some physio although doesn't think I need much. They did tell me there is a small breakthrough at 6 weeks didn't think I would see it as had rough day Saturday and expect to get more of them before the end of this ride...but it's going in the right direction...yipee

Yes I have mine one week today, exactly six weeks. I was a bit concerned but after reading everything on here, I have stopped worrying quite so much. I appear to be managing quite well. I will see next week? Yes you are going the right way, upwards and onwards!

Good job!  Sounds like good things ahead.  The therapy will help, as will doing the exercises at home.  I know for the first 6 weeks I was diligent on doing every exercise at home that was recommended and I went to outpatient therapy twice weekly.

well done!  it can only get easier and easier now with a few backward steps along the way. But you are definitely over the worst.

Good for you on two counts. 1st your healing is going well and the 2nd, you have a doc with a lot of common sense. More interested in your progress and less interest in scaring the hell put of you.

Well its also been with a lot of help from you guys on here...before the op and most definitely in the horrible times and at night when I have been awake and rolling about the bed trying to sort out the pain and restless legs I have been encouraged by everyone's stories and little things that have just made it easier to bare...shall stay on here for a long time seeing how we all get on and then hoping to help others that are starting out x

So glad for you.   I think that 6 week check is nerve racking.  As the others have said you are going in the right direction. God luck.

That's wonderful news. Funny, because I was really nervous to go back too. Keep up the good work

I know just how you felt about the six week consultation as I was the same!  At the two week he muttered about MUA and how he'd done everything he could with the op and people like me just wasted the chance and undid all his good work . .so I was expecting to be hauled over the coals again . .and instead of that he said I was in his 'total success' stories!  What a surprise. I must say, when he asked me to walk in his surgery without any crutches , I think it was the best bit of walking I;ve done in years . .straight, no duck wobble . . much better than usual actually!  It was a good day thank heavens, becauwe they aren't all like that!  He did say I still need to work on the bend,  which I'm doing. . .  . .

I too walked the best ever even though my hamstring was screaming at me but I guess it is better than what we think...just got to keep going as much as some days I can't be bothered and am tired and fed up or in a bit of pain it does pay off x
