post op hip pain - need help

Posted , 10 users are following.

i'm 3 weeks post op and have had a growing pain in the front of my hip.  the pain is worst after sitting for awhile, standing and then stopping/loading my operated hip.  after a step or two, the pain subsides and i can walk normally.

i've been without crutches for 2 weeks and the doc wants me to go back to crutches until the pain goes away.

i think i've irritated the deep muslces/tendons, and suspect the doc's recommendation will work, but want to get any thoughts from others who may have experienced this.

help!

You are probably pushing yourself too hard. You just had a major operation so be kind to your body and take it easier.

I was using crutches for 6 weeks, when I went out I used two crutches but around the house I just used one.  When I went for my post op check, the physio said I could give back one crutch but to keep one as it might come in useful if I have been walking a lot or the weather was wet or icy for reassurance when I was out.  She checked to see if I limped at all without crutches and I wasn't, so she said I needn't use them any more only in the above circumstances.  Maybe you gave up using the crutches too soon and have strained a tendon or something.  Best of luck.

Hi. Listen to your doctor! You are doing too much too soon. Give yourself time to heal. It takes a good 6-8 weeks to walk un-aided safely. Pamper yourself - heal.

    God Bless.
