Post op hysterectomy and pelvic floor repair

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi I'm new to this forum and would be grateful for some advice.

I'm 5 days post op all went well I was in a fair bit of pain immediately after the op but the pain has been manageable until today I'm very sore down there to the point I'm struggling to get in and out of bed.

I was ready the advice leaflet and it says my pain should be easing?

Could this just be the stitches pulling?

Thank you for reading

Have you been doing too much, post op instructions seem to vary mine just said no standing or lifting over 1litre for 4 weeks but other people have been told not to bend or stretch

I haven't really done anything other than get in and out of bed

I'm worried it might be an infection

If you're worried about infection I'd ring your gp or do you have a contact number for someone where you had your surgery

It could be. What kind of repairs did you have done? Be careful not to lift anything heavy also no straining with bms! Keep us posted. Also if you are feeling sore down there try ice packs for relief

    Thanks for the replys

I don't know the technical name but I had

Anterior Vaginal Repair and Posterior Vaginal Repair

It feels like the pain is more the outside stitches rather than any inside

Stay ahead of pain with your Meds and try ice packs

An ice pack sound soothing will have to ask someone to get me some tomorrow

If you've had both an anterior and posterior repair, you will be sore, it's very early days and this is major surgery.

Are you taking something like a stool softener to help your bowel motions be softer so you don't have to strain?

The first couple of weeks you will be in a fair bit of pain, and need pain killers to help with this.

Then you will find the swelling will feel odd and the stitches will tighten.

Especially with a posterior repair you will be very sore and painful, as the stitching goes down into your perineum, and a lot of work has been done.

It's quite normal what you are feeling at this stage, try not to worry.

Look at the pinned post at the top of the prolapse page. The South Tees info is very helpful at telling you what you should expect..

Any other worries, cone back and ask, Matrin will be along at some stage, she is the best person for advice.x.

You can also make one yourself by wetting and freezing a pad or washcloth
