    Where is the pain?

in the thigh, bum cheek, elsewhere?

    inside leg, front, outside, back?

What sort of replacement is it - cemented or uncemented?

Less than a week is very early days yet.

It also depends a lot on your pain tolerance - and what pain medication you are taking.

Annette hi, firstly I think it is completely normal to have some level of pain given what the operation is involved, but you should be able to control this with pain relief? What are you taking and how regularly?

I felt hot and cold a lot for two weeks, and even in week seven this can happen. Your body is dealing with a lot. Your immune system is in over drive. Resting, raising your leg and really keeping on top of your pain killers will help. If it is still hurting too much call your doctor for done stronger ones.

The first week is the worst you really will feel better soon - big hugs

    Hi Annett -

First a warm welcome to our fabulous forum and to the "other" side -

I agree wih Rose's comment ... This is major surgery and your body has gone through a lot ... takes a lot of energy to heal, hence the temperature fluctuations - This might ake several weeks, but less intense as in the first 2 weeks ..

What kind of pain are you feeling ?    It is, of course, normal to feel pain around and inside the wound and hip and thigh -

What pain medication are you on .... Did you have this pain while you were in the hospital?

Be very gentle with your self , okay?   If you are really concerned and pain becomes unbearable , please contact your surgeon ....

Come back here any time if you have any questions or just want to share ... you are not alone.

    big warm hug

    renee

I am almost identical time frame with you with my 2nd op. Definitely have the hot and cold thing going on although not as bad as last time. I have pain with movement but it is manageable with Norco. I have a lot of swelling this time and find that for that ice packs work best. I am trying to keep ice on it a lot and that helps. Pain is normal part of healing but you have to have enough meds to be able to move about some as that is also part of healing! Sending good energy your way!

I'd get in touch with the hospital immediately - you need stronger pain control now, and need the hip checked to make sure it's not come loose as that can produce major pain.

You need to see your surgeon or a doctor immediately. It is not normal to be on a 10 pain level. I really hope this can be sorted out for you quickly.

Can you call your surgeons secretary? Tell her about your pain levels, and ask her what you should do, or perhaps call the local hospital and see if you can go there and have your hip checked.... Thinking of you today - and really hope you will post back and tell us how you are.
