I have had a pelvic floor repair done plus SSF, i feel that the pelvic floor repair is healing well but i am in so much pain from the fixation.... just looking for reassurance that it will get better as the lack of information i have received from the hospital is disappointing..... googled it but nowhere actually gives me timelines on the levels of pain etc..... please help!

Hi. So sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I think one of the most worrying things about these operations is the lack of realistic information on the recovery and you imagine all sorts of things have gone wrong.
I posted on here at 6 weeks post op as I was concerned it was unsuccessful and I was in so much pain. I phoned the hospital at this time and was advised to go to A&E where they consulted the gynaecologist who prescribed strong suppository painkillers and said give it another 4 weeks and they would see me in clinic.
I had the appointment on Thursday, was examined and it was confirmed that the operations were successful but I still have a lot of stitches plus the SSF stitches take 6 months to dissolve. My pain from the SSF has eased a great deal and I now just get the odd jab that makes me wince.
I'm still experiencing discomfort if I overdo things and am lucky to have a husband who has been a superstar looking after me.
Please try and take it easy to give yourself the best recovery. Obviously everyone's circumstances are different and I hope you are being taken care of.
Looking back I'm so much better now than before when I felt like I'd been hit by a bus.
There is a good leaflet on here from https://www.southtees.nhs.uk/content/uploads/45-MICB4807-V1-Advice-Prolapse-Surgery.pdf
it gives a more realistic view of the recovery.
I wish you the best for your recovery.

I had this operation last year and could not believe the pain I suffered excruciating and the tiredness too. The tiredness and lack of energy lasted a few weeks
I found lots of advice on this forum which reassured me that what I was experiencing is to be expected it would have been nice if the consultant had prepared me for this! If you look back on previous posts on this site you will find reassurance as I did
I think we forget its is major surgery.
Relax and dont do anything! You will feel better it just takes time x

Hi Julie
Thanks for your reply, yes, I'm more shocked at the pain levels and I don't think of myself as a wimp.
like you, I'm lucky that I have a lovely husband who is helping out but I just feel sorry for him as today I have been an emotional wreck because of the pain...... pulled myself together now after finding this forum and reading everyones experiences.
I will definitely be taking it easy and day by day.
Thank you
Tracey

Hi Tracey. Just to say the crying is perfectly normal too! Your emotions will be all over the place. Also the feeling that you should never have had the operation in the first place. I kept wishing I could go back! You'll have good and bad days too when you feel you're taking one step forward and two steps back. All these things are normal.
You are definitely not a wimp. I've always had a high pain threshhold and this knocked me for six.
Best wishes.

Hi
Sorry for lack of communication but a day after posting I was taken back in to hospital with sepsis so 9 days later I am recovering well, all be it with an abscess in my bum and still in a lot if discomfort. Consultants verdict is that the SSF was the cause, blood clots collected around the stitch etc and then became infected.
