Post OP sigmoidectomy almost a year now. Still having pain! Is it IBS now?

In just about 3 weeks, it'll be a year since surgery for diverticulitis. Recovery wasn't easy, but I eventually healed. had the usual pains where all the incisions were made. losing 8 inches of the sigmoid didn't relieve the chronic constipation, so my gastroenterologist kept me taking Linzess as needed, encouraging a high fiber diet and lots of fluids. Made some lasting changes, and am now planning a trip to Ireland in 2 weeks (the last one had to be put off because of my surgery needs). Now, I'm having pains under my rib cage, both sides; pains in my upper back, feels like gas build up, and having chronic constipation woes. Because of my long suffering prior to surgery, I'm getting fearful that I'll suffer again with that garbage! I live in a large metropolitan area and my GP and gastrodocs are overworked, understaffed and overloaded with patients with problems. As a result they've developed a response of "take one of these, and call for a follow up ". Which is then about 4 to 8 weeks or more.
any body else out there that is post op and experiencing the same? Is what I'm experiencing IS IT, this thing called IBS?

Hi Gio,
I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well again! I am going to get a sigmoidectomy in 3-5 months. I wont give you the whole story but had abscesses and an ulcer and after 6 weeks and 2 separate hospital stays the antibiotics werent working. So I had to get a colostomy bag put in to let my bowels rest. Experiencing some scary things since then and constantly calling my doctor or looking here for answers.
All this is to say if you can't get into your doctor I would go to emergency or a urgent care. . Even if it turns out to be nothing you have peace of mind!

yes, I most certainly will insist on seeing my physician and if that's not possible I'll take your advise on the urgent care way. for sure, I wish not to again cancel plans to visit the land of my fathers. been looking so forward to it.
God speed and bless you on your way to new beginning. stay well! and, thanks again!
