post op tachycardia

Hiya, its been a while since i posted. I had my left hip replaced 3 and a half weeks ago and recovery this time has been unremarkable really. Much quicker without the inch and a half leg length discrepancy that hampered recovery after the right hip. Exercises are being restricted by an inflamed tendon in my groin but thats about it. The biggest issue i have is tachycardia. I got it post op last time but much less so. pulse was typically 90-100 and it settled after a couple of weeks. This time I was kept awake ALL night by the bloody machine beeping every 5 minutes because my pulse was 110-120. At the time we put it down to the spinal failing before i came out of sedation so i came round to intense pain in my hip causing some quite severe pain issues for the first 24 hours. Day 2 it was up to 130 but dropped when one of my pain meds was reduced. However the tachycardia is still being troublesome 3 weeks later. Im 44 and not normally tachycardic. Im hypothyroid so tend to be a bit sloth like.

I know its an odd one but i wondered if anyone else experienced anything like it

My heart rate was all over the place for a short time - they said it was probably down to the GA, as when they tried to get the spinal in, it wouldn't go in due to the stenosis. But it was settled within days, and no problems since. If you  are  worried about it, it's really something you should soak to the doctor  about. It's probably just the way you are, and will settle in its own time, but better to put your mind at rest.

Hi Helen,  I had Lthr nov 17. The hip was great from the start. I had anterior approach and recovery has been amazing.  I got very sick I guess from the anesthesia I got sick about seven times so the first night is a blur.  I woke the next morning hip felt great walked and sat in the chair had my tea and my surgeon came in and said you are doing great you can go home today then the physical therapist came in and my daughter who's in cardiology happened to take my vitals and my heart was racing come to find out I had gone into a fib  nothing like that has ever happened to me like that before they called the cardiologist and they started me on drips for it and they said it is very common from the stress of the surgery getting so sick could gave caused it. I stayed in cardiology overnite my daughter with me and within 12 hours it went back to normal and I was discharged. I have never had a problem with my heart. I know it's an electrical problem I just hope it doesn't come back I saw a cardiologist and he thinks it's a fluke thing because of anesthesia and the surgery. I feel like I now have a new beautiful hip I don't want to be worrying about my heart all the time. My pulse went up as high as 160.

Im having issues with Tachycardia now and I have to get cleared from cardiology before my next surgery.I also had an arrthymia.I never even had high blood pressure until the chronic pain I have lived with over the last 2 .5 years.Just think high levels of chronic pain when you work full time is hard on your body. Good luck. They put my husband on mess for tachycardia and he has been fine
