Post operation laxative..... WARNING

After a TKR (since revised) in June 2017 I was advised by the hospital staff to take a laxative before I was discharged. Id been there for 3 days and given what Id just been through, wasnt very interested in food, so ate very little.

I was so thrilled to be going home, that without much though I dutifully took a spoonful of the dreaded syrup on offer.

I arrived home around 10.30 and went straight to bed. At midday, I awoke with a very urgent need to get to the loo. Getting out of the bed was at best difficult and incredibly painful, given that the 'proper' painkillers were starting to wear off. Then lowering yourself, (or in my case falling the last 6 inches or so) onto the loo was also very painful, 3 days post-op. Bear in mind, I didnt have the option of taking my time !

The laxative most certainly did its job (and so much more). An incredibly exhausting and painful few minutes now behind (no pun intended) me, I shuffled back to bed.

Unfortunately, the same thing happened an hour later and for the next 20 hours, I made 16 similar visits to the gents in total. Each one more painful than the last and by no means just my knee at this stage.

You have been warned.....

No one warned me about constipation, consequently no laxative. A few days post op nature took its course without discomfort
