Post ORIF Swelling!

I am 7 months post-op and have been walking pretty regularly. I broke both bones in my ankle and had some small shards of bone in the joint. I got two plates and fifteen screws. Recently, my ankle has been swelling and is sore to the touch right above one plate. Has anyone else experienced this? Why would it be swelling again? I haven't re-injured it at all and only participating in light exercise. I did PT for two months after being allowed to put weight on it. Then I moved and haven't picked up where I left off. Anyway, I would appreciate others experiences or advice for the pain/swelling.
