Post ovarian cyst removal

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have had dermoid cysts approx 10cm each removed off both ovaries by laparotomy 9 weeks ago. I ended up having two surgeries after a collection of blood formed in my abdomen after the first surgery, sending me into septic shock. I still don't have much strength at all in my tummy, and get swelling and jabbing pain frequently, plus it is sore if anything touches it or bumps against it! Has anyone else's recovery taken SO long? And what was it like trying to concieve after having the cysts removed if anyone has gone through that? That's next on the cards for me! Thanks smile

Oh no, a complication after surgery, I am very sorry to hear.

I conceived within 3 months after cyst operation. As soon as the cycle starts successfully and releases an egg, it doesn't matter, when the operation was.

My cycle came back within 2 months normal (was muddled up first month, straight away non-ovulation bleed and so on due to squeezing ovaries), an voila.

Thank you for sharing your experience. 3 months! Wow I hope I can concieve that quickly! I had my period during the surgery and have had another two since! So they are a bit all over the plane and still very long and heavy. I'll be glad when I'm pregnant to have a break from them!!

I'm sorry you've gone through all this. Surgery's difficult enough without having surgical complications!

Did you have regular cycles before the cysts developed? If not, you may want to have an endocrine workup to check your thyroid and pituitary. Otherwise, it's probably just a matter of waiting it out for your cycles to return to normal so you can conceive. Have you had your iron levels checked? I found mine to be low after my surgery even though I was told I didn't lose much blood.

    Best of luck to you!

Yeah my iron levels were low after surgery and I had needed transfusions due to losing so much blood as it all bled into my tummy and went septic. I have been on iron supplements. Yes my periods did have a pattern (although it wasn't the conventional pattern) before surgery. But my mum and sisters all have similar styles of periods so gyno said its normal for my family. Yes it's been a tough road but I'm mostly in the clear now! But yes I still get swelling and pain too which is quite annoying.
