Post pericardectomy arrhthymias

Ten years ago I had a pericardectomy for constrictive pericarditis. During the two years before open heart surgery I was hospitalised many times with atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. I would be loaded up on Amiodarone (unfortunately, the only medication that mostly kept my heart rhythm even) and sent home until the next time. I had 3 cardio-versions and 3 ablations (one after my surgery) I was left with right sided heart failure due to the condition and some due to the op and possibly an area of stiff heart muscle.
Roll forward the years - Graves disease (brought on by the Amiodarone)and over treated leading to Hashimoto. At the point of being diagnosed with the latter I had a restart of arrhythmia. Thought that being ideally medicated for the thyroid problem would stop the arrhythmia. It didn't and they worsened. I now don't think they are closely connected in this case.
I cannot be refered to my former cardiologist as I'm no longer in the UK, so, language problems prevailing, I am seeing a private specialist here as the national health service cardiologist only gave me beta blockers. On my UK hospital notes was written 'no beta blockers' as they made me feel so unwell.
A few questions - Why was i advised not to take beta blockers and only Amiodarone worked. Is it something to do with the particular conditon or part of the heart thats damaged?
I am going to ask for a 7 day Holtor so I have the results for the specialist, what blood testswould you advise me have?
Sorry for the long post 😕
