Post prolapse surgery.

hi, I am 49 years old and 2 days ago i had surgey to correct a cystocele (bladder prolapse) no mesh was used as it is now banned in the uk. The operation was done vaginally by surgical incision and stitches. The op went well with no complications and i had very little discomfort afterwards. While i was showering tonight and washing around my vagina i felt a lump and i could also feel the stitches. Could this be swelling? Or could the prolapse had happened again so soon after the operation? Has anybody else experienced this please? And what was the outcome? Right now i am so worried. Thanks in advance

    Hi April

I'd be very surprised its another prolapse but I'm surprised yiu can feel stitches as they are inside on the anterior wall.

Yiu will still be swollen from the surgery so try not to worry.

Having said that my first one failed after a month and had my second done last January with tvh.

I had a different consultant to do my second one as I list all faith in the first one.

Sometimes these repairs do fail for a number of reasons like tissue strength, age, technique and just luck.

All I know is I dud nothing fir 8 wks to jeopardise it and these repairs are not lifelong lasting.

If in doubt please go back to you consultant. X

      1. Thanks for your reply. I got a mirror and a torch (like you do!) And upon laying down i couldn't really see anything, just a small lump/swelling. However when I looked in the mirror upon standing I could clearly see a lump/swelling and I could actually see the black stitches. I am going to phone the ward I was on later this morning for advice. Thanks again x

Yes my consultant. They wont cut all the way down to end of anterior wall as all the workings of the urethra and nerves can get damaged.

I had an anterior repair last Tuesday and went home on Thursday. On the second day they took out the packing which was painful and removed the catheter. I thought I was passing good amounts of urine but after scanning they found I was retaining urine so catheter was put back on and I had to come home with it and also give myself injections to protect against blood clots. I have not been able to have a shower (just washing down) but difficult to tell if any lumps like you. However when I had posterior repair two years ago I can remember being worried about lumps and feeling the stitches so maybe that is what you can feel. I wore sanitary pads that were quite thick to help with swelling and this time I have been taking it very easy because I do not want any problems. Good Luck.
