Post Sepsis Syndrome linked to Polymyalgia

Good evening, I have only just joined this page as it has been suggested today by our GP that he may be suffering from Polymyalgia.

In June 2018 he was admitted to hospital with Sepsis during treatment for bladder cancer. Since that initial Sepsis episode and four more admissions since, he has been suffering from severe pain in his shoulder area, rib cage, sternum and sometimes down to his hip area. He has Diclofenic gel and Oralmorph for the pain. He has been suffering from severe fatigue and tiredness and his appetite has not been at its best.

His recent blood tests picked up some abnormalities which is why our GP has suggested Polymyalgia and has given him steroid tablets to see if they stop the pain.

My question this evening is: are there any known links to Polymyalgia and Post Sepsis Syndrome ?

Any advice or links to information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, it isn't clear: WHO may possibly be suffering from PMR? Do you mean your husband? I assume not the GP!

Infections and high levels of stress are two things that may be part of the whole picture of insults to the immune system that may trigger it to malfunction in the form of an autoimmune disorder.

Do the diclofenac and oromorph help? If so that might suggest it is something else - they rarely help with PMR pain.

what does help with pmr besides prenisone

Only corticosteroids (prednisone, prednisolone and methyl prednisolone usually) will reliably manage the inflammation and so the pain and stiffness. Some doctors tout methotrexate and other so-called steroid sparers but they don't replace pred, you usually need some level of pred.

Good morning, yes, sorry my husband ! I ought to have read it back before sending !!

Yes the diclofenac and oromorph do help his pain if used regularly. My husband was overdosed with chemotherapy (the hospital consultant has admitted the error) which knocked his white cells down to next to nothing so he had very little immune system to fight off infections. He is also on iron tablets as he is anaemic.

As Eileen says only pred manages PMR, however good diet, rest, gentle exercise and living a stress free life also helps. Not overdoing things and also to reduce the dosage slowly.

How does someone lead a "stress free life?" I think the only way to do this is to to expire. Don't mean to belittle your situation. There is always stress in life....especially when dealing with health problems. I think we can reduce this stress level by adopting a positive outlook as much as possible.

Life would be pretty boring totally stress free, no excitement!
