Post Stroke Central Pain Syndrome treatments

Hello, I haven't seen anyone post of this condition so I wanted to reach out to others that may be dealing with this. What is the best treatment works best for you? I haven't had much luck with the normal Gabapentin anti depressent mix. A herb called ButterBurr works great along with accupunture. I've been reading good results from electric magnetic shock therapy. Has anyone tried this?

Hi, I'm not familiar with the condition that you're talking about, however, I had a subarachnoid haemorrhage, in 2012, also, I have multiple sclerosis. One of my worst MS symptoms, is neuro pain. It took a long time to get on the right meds to, more often than not, reduce the pain to within much more bearable levels.
I was tried on gabapentin in the early days, which didn't help me at all. I was taking a variety of other, more commonly used pain meds, which helped a tiny bit. My neurologist prescribed a different neuro med; taking me slowly off gabapentin (which caused horrible symptoms, like sea-sickness), and putting me onto pregabalin. Along with my other pain meds, pregabalin actually helped.
Ithe seems like it's simply a matter of trial and error. I've also had some success with acupuncture.
I hope you find a workable solution.

I had a stroke 2 1/2 years ago. About 8 months afterward, I developed neuro-type pain in right hand , arm, shoulder and face. Tried various prescriptions but they made me sleepy and/or affected my thinking. No luck with Gabapentin either. The last one I tried is Lyrica and that took away the brain fog, and helped a little bit with neuro pain, but I have cut back to just 50 mg at night because it, too, seemed to affect my thinking. I read on the NIH website that Post Stroke Central Pain Syndrome is difficult to treat and that doctors often don't recognize it. How do you use the Butterbur? I have found that a hot shower followed by Aspercreme/Lidocaine lotion on my arm and shoulder and face is as soothing as anything I've tried, and it doesn't affect my thinking or make me sleepy or dizzy. It may be that the meds that help this type of stroke after effect just hasn't been developed yet. Please keep posting about this. Glad to find a fellow sufferer!
