Post THD surgery

Hi all I have just had 3 hemoroids worked on by THD surgery. This was done Thursday (now Saturday). I am on 2 sachets a day of movicol to soften stools but have not passed anything yet. I am eating fruit and little bit of other stuff such as digestive biscuits a little bit of bread etc. is there anything else I can do to help? When is pushing straining? I tried to go earlier and worryingly passed a jelly like lump of something??????? Any ideas guys?

The pain is manageable with occasional paracetamol or ibuprofen....... Any advise gratefully received

Hi, I had HALO surgery which is pretty much the same as THD 3 months ago in the UK. The jelly like lump you passed was most likely a plug - my surgeon told me they insert a jelly like plug after the operation which you will pass with your first bowel movement and it will be red with blood. Mine actually came out shortly after the op when i went to the loo - so don't worry about that, the surgeon did say that sometimes they forget to tell the patients about the plug and they panic when it comes out. I kept feeling like I needed to go to the loo but actuallly didn't have a bowel movement until a few days after the op - and it was agony. Try not to push or strain and just go when you nees to. I ate a normal diet but with plenty of fruit and veg, I also ate porridge and had prunes. Hope this helps - it does get better given time although i was off work for 4 weeks.

Thank you little miss. The surgeon/cosultant never saw me post op so I feel very much in the dark. The pain is manageable but I have not had a bowel movement other than the plug, it's now been 3 days. I don't know the difference between pushing and straining as I age ibs so long. I am eating the right foods and taking movicol twice daily I guess I will have to wait for nature. Thanks for the advice

I had an THD hemorrhoids operation 5 weeks ago now that is because I am having internal and external hemorrhoids. I was told that it is the least painful operation. But, I find it the most painful operation I have ever had. Actually, since I had this operation , I am having severe pain almost every day. Sometimes, I wish I did not have the operation. I have some side effects of it that I am having pain in my upper legs sometimes. I have some swollen veins outside the anus which makes me even discomfort and disappointed. Does any body have been into the same? And,how long does it take to recover fully from the operation? Thanks

Hi I am sorry to hear about your pain, I was very lucky that by day 7 I was back at work and by day 14 was pain free and of the movicol too, I think I was probably very lucky. I hope you feel better soon
