I am 6 months from THR.  Are there any restrictions?

Should the scar continued to be massaged?

Hiya - the restrictions are usually lifted at 6-12 weeks Pat , so unless your surgeon has said something specifically different I would think so ( unless you meant 6 weeks ??? In which case its however long your own surgeon has said) to an extent they can apply for a long time - ie some seats will be uncomfortable , certain movements will be also . The only thing I was told once restrictions were lifted was not to take up any new high risk sports such as skiing that I hadnt done before, if Id already been a skiier then it would have been OK . I think our bodies tell us what is OK and what is not and it s wise to listen to them and take heed. Hope all is well with you and your progress hon xxx

Restrictions are dependent on individual recovery. In my case I could do almost most things.  Bending @ 6 months was still a problem and lifting pushing/pulling objects over 8 #. I took a year and continued exercises to gain enough muscle strength. Massage the area is always a good idea until it has heeled. I did both of mine to relieve the swelling and nodules from surgery. It really helped to get the blood flow and oxygen to the area for better heeling.

    Good Luck

      Hi Patricia -

There are personal fav's of course - I don't know what is available in Capetown - people like Bio Oil which also will dimish the scar - it has a nice smell as well - I am using regular body cream (Nivea or anything that is smooth and smells nice - hmm, there is a theme here) -

I am assuming your scar is healed on the surface and closed ...

      big warm hug

I'm 18 ... and 28 weeks post op - bending fine to tie shoelaces, dry my feet etc., riding pushbike in London again.

No real restrictions any more - but being sensibly careful.

Continuing to massage the scar - and it looks and feels good.  No more unusual sensations in it ( I had a sharp stabbing like a needle at one point),and sensitivity at lower end has disappeared too.

    Best wishes

    hi paatttt,

I had an appointment with my surgeon at 6 months post-op. .

restrictions were released. ..Unfortunately I had trochantric bursitis and even though restrictions were released, pain had returned. .

    😢

I am still massaging both scars. ..

    how are you doing?

    Big warm hug
