Posterior Vitreous Detachment (PVD) Diagnosis

Hi all,

New here. I'm a 50 yo female and was diagnosed with PVD last week. I have been wearing glasses for nearsightedness for 40+ years and have "lattice" on my retina. I got scared that my symptoms were a retina tear/detachment: it had started about 5 days prior with a black "tadpole like" floater on the side of of my vision (right eye). And then it progressed to more floaters and white lights in my periphery.

I got scared and went to see my retina specialist.

He said PVD, no tear or detachment (yet) but that is not out of the realm of possibility (though rare), particularly since I have lattice on my retina.

Since then, it's been driving me crazy. Floaters, flashing lights (mostly at night). Very aggravating. I have a follow up appointment in 3 weeks.

I was essentially told there's nothing I can do, though I am taking it easy (limiting screen time, no strenuous activity and loads of water). I feel like heat and dehydration was a contributing factor to the onset of this (but who knows).

I am looking for some people who've been through this. Do the symptoms go away? Has anyone had complications from it? Anything else to do to prevent it from progressing or make it better?

I have "health anxiety" - the past 2 years haven't helped - and this has been making me feel so down.
