Postmenopausal Bleeding, Breast Cancer Survivor

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi, I went through Breast Cancer treatment in 2009 at 45 years old. This sent me into Menopause.  I hadn't had a period since.  Yesterday, I started to bleed, not heavy, but this is  freaking me out.  I took Tamoxifen/Anastrasole and stopped after 5 years.  Called my GYN and will go in for an Ultrasound this coming week.  I guess with the Internet, our minds go to the worst case scenario, especially after going through Chemo and Radiation before...

Holly, this just means your body is producing normal hormonal activity. I don't see it as a bad thing after all you're only 50. My friend also had chemo/radiation for breast cancer and started getting periods. So it's not uncommon. You didn't have your ovaries removed so I don't see why they wouldn't return.

My labs showed I was Menopausal back in 2010 and being that I haven't had a period in 7, almost 8 years, I think it may be something else.  I seriously doubt I am producing normal hormonal activity at this point (I wish!)  I am turning 53 in February, but my concern is that I took Tamoxifen for 5 years which increases the risk of Endometrial Cancer.  I will call and get in to the doctor's this week to start the tests and go from there...again, hoping for the best!

I see your concern. Yes, get checked out right away. Will pray for you.

Don't read Internet! You will be fine. You are not the doctor and please try to be positive. You have had that it will not come back!

My husband has had Cancer at his 20th. We have been together for 12 years and he is 49 now but he is so relaxed 😆 . He hasn't got perimenopause 😉 . Have to say I'm 43 and my mind is so bad. I'm going mad but it should be him.

Please, don't worry! You will be fine.

      Hugs and blessings

    Hi Holly,

I agree with Sochima, but you were wise to go to your GYN!  It must have been a shock to you...and extremely worrying after what you've already been through!

We're here to support you!  Please let me know how you get on! xx

Hi Holly. I can't offer you any great comfort at this point as I am going through something similar, although thankfully I did not have breast cancer treatment in the past. But on Christmas Eve I started bleeding after more than 5 years. I am 55. I was sent for an internal and abdominal ultrasound, which has shown that my endometrial lining is thicker than it should be. I have a biopsy scheduled for February 7th. Like you, I am really worried and, also like you, I have gone the internet route and am so sorry that I did. But the one major consolation we both have is that we are taking positive action and getting ourselves checked immediately. That, they say, is the number one positive step.

Please keep us posted on how you're doing and I will do the same. I will be thinking of you. XXXX

Thank you Shazanne!  I know, it seems with having gone through Menopause that you have all this behind you and then BAM!  out of the blue, something you never would have dreamed of!  There's always something, you know?! smile

I will definitely keep you posted and you too, we're here to support each other!

      Hello

Having just read your post I am nearly 52 about 18months ago I was referred to gynaecologist with similar issue mine was ongoing heavy irregular cycle. Post an hysteroscopy and biopsy my result came back as endometrial hyperplasia (simple) resulting in a need for progesterone. I had a Mirena fitted 15 months ago with intention of having it removed in 2-3years. It's hard, I get anxious but the medics keep me in check. It's likely I'm peri. Will keep you informed. Hormones are mystery & will often the last word. So it could just be a spike in hormones. Have faith in the medics they know best. Tc x

Update:  I had my Ultrasound and bloodwork on Monday, 1/16.  Yes, my Endometrial lining is quite thick (12 mm, should be around 5mm).  I am scheduled for a D & C on Friday, 1/27 where they'll also get sample for a biopsy.  Will keep everyone posted.  I will be glad to get some answers and am quite thankful to be in the hands of good doctors.  With my Breast Cancer history, it just brings up a lot of emotions, but, need to keep positive!
