PostMenopausal Ovarian Cysts

Hi, was wondering if anyone could help me out. My Mom is 59 years old, and goes to a GYN regularly. During one of her yearly checkups, two small cysts were found on her ovary. They were small so both the PA, and the DR couldn't feel them; only appeared on an internal sono. The Doctor isn't worried at all, wants her to come back in three months to see if there are any changes. CA-125 came back fine, and no family history of any type of cancer on my Moms side. I, however, am a nervous wreck and would just prefer for her to get both ovaries removed that way we don't have to worry. She has no symptoms as isn't in any pain. Any thoughts and advice would be well appreciated. Thanks!!

    Hi Vicki,

Don't worry, if there were any thoughts at all about there being a chance the cysts were nasty, something would be done, and quickly. It's quite normal to have tiny cysts and not know about it. They are usually what is called "simple cysts" and are nothing to worry about. They often just disappear on their own.

Dr's usually just take the view to watch and wait for a few months. Then forget about them if there is no change.

She doesn't need to have surgery to remove her ovaries, she'll be fine.

If her ca 125 and sono were good then she is most likely fine. With her being post menopause then her ca 125 would be elevated if your mother had a serious issue.
