Posture when urinating.

I remember when I was younger my friends and I would give each other sh-t. Which was normal for friends at that age. One jab that would come out of mouths every so often was (I bet you squat when you p**s). Now that I am much older and have prostate problems that takes on a new meaning. I truly do find it easier to urinate if I am sitting on the toliet and not standing. Am I in the minority on this or do others find you have better stream and able to empty bladder better by sitting? Sometimes standing I am lucky to get anything to come out and if I do it makes a mess.

Hey Mike.  I think as we get older it just a way.  I do both but find myself sitting most of the time.  I think it's much easier.  Because after I had my urolift done I had a catheter and when it was put in there was not enough lee way and it made my pee hole longer.  The catheter pulled down.  So if I stand I have to make sure I am near the toilet  or I spray all over.  Take care  Ken

I've been sitting for years. It definitely makes it easier and there is less stress on the associated muscles as well as any stress related to a low volume/weak stream.

The only downside is those cretins that leave the seat down and p**s all over it. Gave me much greater appreciation for the complaints of women.

just the opposite for me. Ii think a lot depends on how full your bowel is at the time of urination. Anatomically its right by the urethra and if its full it adds to the compression of it.

Hey Mike that is true.  When I have a bowel movement most of the time I do not pee.  A few times very little.  But I find sitting easier for me.  Have a great day  Ken

I find that if I have a big bowel movement my next pee is bigger and more forceful.

Its definitely easier for me to stand.  I'm self-cathing and have had no surgery at this point.  Sometimes I don't feel an urge at all until I get up and walk around for a short time.  Also noticed that doing deep-knee bends (I know, I hate them too) about 6-8 times seems to make starting a flow a little easier.  I don't do that very often; just walking around a bit does about the same thing.  But sitting on the toilet feels like I'm blocking something.  If I can get a trickel out while sitting on the toilet I'm probably retaining @ 400ml.

    Hi Mike,

I think you can see by now that for some it's easier sitting and for some easier standing. For me, easier standing. Probably depends on how your individual anatomy is affecting bph/luts. My understanding is that sitting down, especially if you lean forward, increases bladder pressure and for some this may be helpful. "Squatting" is a different position from sitting so it may work differently.

I do both, but there are times when it is essential to sit and even bend forward and hold my feet! It seems to straighten out the urethra better. Also I was advised by the urology nurse that sitting is better.
