Just wondering if you can please share the best way to ween off of 40mg of somac daily. 

If I can’t ween completely off without discomfort my gastro specialist would like me to swap to 150mg ranitidine twice a day but said I still need to ween off the somac either way. 

Any suggestions?

    Take for seven days, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, fri, sat, sun then every other day, tues, thurs, sat, mon.... then take wed, friday, sunday....then tues, thurs.......then take half (cut in half) take half saturday and half monday then stop.....

      Thank you for your reply. My gastro specialist wants to swap me from somac to ranitidine twice a day. Do I have to ween off my somac or can I just swap cold turkey?

      You should ween yourself off any medication you have been on for sometime to let your system adjust..so yes ween yourself off somac as i have previously described in my reply to Eliaimee1970...it should take approx l month to wean off the med....

    I'm trying this atm and its been 3 weeks and I'm going thought hell with rebound effects....I went down the zantac twice a day way as the ppi was making me feel awful...these medications are the worst things I've ever been on..

    if your trying ween your self of and try drinking peppermint flavor tea or fennel flavour tea and see if that will help

    Sure, I'll do my best.  I was on one 20 mg. in the am and 20 mg. in the pm. I started by by reducing one pill a week at least 2 weeks between each elimination.   Each time I cut back, I took Renitadine at the time I would normally take the ppi. I had very little acid backlash tapering this way.   I needed the evening dose the most, so I eliminated my morn. doses first.  Now I take only the Renitadine and am not having any symptoms or problems.  I hope this was clear enough.  If not, just let me know, and I'll try to explain it better..  Good luck with your venture.

      Thank you for your reply, you explained well. I only take a 40mg in the morning. 

      Is it ok to take ranitidine whilst taking ppi?

      I didn't take them at the same time.  I took them when I would normally take the PPI as you taper.
