My operation is on the 5th April, was told to choose a time between 2-4pm anytime this week to do my pre-op assessment so i asked for tomorrow 2pm.  I havent been given any instrucctions to fast in order to do blood etc. I feel a bit frustrated....how was you experience?

Not a fasting blood test for pre opening, my apt was for 8.30 and the letter said allow 2 hrs so I booked 1/2 day off work -I was there for 4 hours! Mainly because my surgeon insisted on seeing every one of his patients and his clinic started at 12! However I had blood test ,ECG,meeting with OT several cups of coffee and managed to complete my data analysis for y8 students!

    Hi

I also have my pre op tomorrow, but my op isn't until the 28th April.  Where are you?

I was told to take a urine sample, all my current meds and I have a form I need to complete with the heights of my bed, chair, toilet etc.

My letter says to allow 2 hours so I have booked half a day off from work.

    Good luck!

I was there for 2 hours at my pre-op.  Blood tests were taken, blood pressure, weight, height, BMI, had an ECG and lungs checked and an x-ray of hips, so that they could see what size I would need, had legs measured, was given crutches, adjusted to my height and arm length.  It all went very quickly really as I did not have to wait about for very long.  Hope all goes well for you.

    Hi

no fasting just a very pleasant chat with physio about what equipment to get plus a booklet with exercises. Then chat with staff nurse and copious amounts of form filling about previous ops. Also what medications you are on and allergies. If you on certain meds they will tell you which ones to stop taking. Bloods taken. Got myself worked up a bit but it was not necessary.

    Hi,

I had 3 pre op appointments. I had joint school which was a half day thing where they show you a video of all the exercises and talk about what's going to happen whilst in hospital, and measure leg height and give an information booklet to write chair heights and toilet height to hand in. Next appointment was for bloods, weight, and to be given the pre op drinks for the days before and mornings of op. The last appointment was a week before with surgeon so he could discuss the possible things that could go wrong and get my consents etc.

i really do find it fascinating that all the different hospitals have different ways of doing everything and all the advice they give out is different.

no fasting required for giving bloods though. Don't worry it's just a box ticking exercise to make sure they have all the relevant information ready for your op. Emma x
