Jitters I understand!  My surgery date is 11/7.  Its good that you have a hip buddy! The week before, the only pain medication I can take is tylenol which doesn't really help at all.  That's the week I'm worried about.  But it will make me really want to go through with the hip surgery!  Good luck to you!  Warm wishes and healing thoughts are being sent your way.

Michelle you sound like me.  I have to quit my ibuprofen two weeks before the surgery and take tylenol.  If it doesnt help I'll be begging to get it done!  All the best, Mary

The anticipation for me was way worse than getting it over. It was not easy...but it was not as bad as I told myself it would be. Trust your doctor and your body. I'm day 11 post op and can't believe I am already encouraging others! You can do it...good luck.

It's easy to say not to worry as I know how worried I was and no matter what people told me about how I would feel after, was still no comfort. I am 47 years old and had hip pain because of o/a for 12 years. I was told they wouldn't operate until I was older and couldn't stand the pain any longer.

I am now 7 days post op and already feeling the benefits. I can stand with no pain or feeling like my hip had locked and walk better even now.

Just think of the positives of having it done. You will be fine. Best of luck to you.

My surgery is scheduled for this Friday and I'm getting nervous too! Was only told to quit naproxen for five days before so haven't really noticed the lack of painkilling yet. My main worry at the moment is that a UTI showed up in my pre-op tests and I had to have a retest today after a course of antibiotics. I won't get the results until Wednesday so won't know until then whether I'll still be able to go in.

Desperate to get it done now so wish me luck!

Hi Gail I had a THR 8 weeks ago and I am completely pain free now so try not to worry . I was just like you,  in fact I was petrified but no need to have been as it was much better than expected and care was second to none and staff so caring.  Stay calm and try not to worry and best wishes for a fast recovery .

Good luck , Gail. You are smart to take advantage of the network, pairing up, building a relationship thing with your hip buddy. ".joined at the hip."  I am thinking , writing from the U.S., that when someone says "physio" that person--you, for instance-- , is from England or what you call "UK" which I guess means England , Scotland, Ireland or Wales.  --what we    call Britain or the British Isles.  When you said that you were jittery and nrervous, that apparently made me want to chatter endlessly to try to calm you. The escalation of the pain might be partially --or even totally--associated with the apprehension--the jitters.  Congratualtion of you wisdom as you goo into it. Being smart is necessary--or at least helpful.  Love to you and your hip buddies everywhere.

I wrote you a long --unnecessarily long-- response, gail,27284 but it apparently evaporated. What did I do wrong?  Will this disapprear also?  Someone tell me please what I might be doing wrong.  I just wanted to reassure Gail that she was doing the right think by paring up with another hip buddy.  To try to help her recue the jtters that she mentions.  Now :  how do I SEND --or "SUBMIT"-- this? response?
