hi. I got a letter this week for my pre OP this coming Monday and the enhanced recovery session Friday next week. I'm assuming it's going to take a couple of hrs but I was going to check with them Monday. my letter says can take friends family to pre OP but doesn't mention abt the other. had lots of forms to fill in with measurements of my furniture etc.
I've been told by my consultant sec my OP is beginning of June but the letters I've had so far don't confirm that. most of these things are done up to 6 weeks before hand.
but good luck with your op 😃

It will be interesting to see what a joint class is. I had a pre op which included a talk and slide show about all sorts of things to do with hips, hip gadgets and hip ops. A friend came with me. She kept asking questions and was not even having her hip done!

I would definitely attend. My pre-op class was very informative, with demo of what the device actually looks like, Demonstrations on how to get dressed, the different aids that you can purchase to help you (Which I highly recommend that you purchase), How to get in and out of bed, the difference between anterior and posterior, Information on bowel movements and what to do to assist with that when you’re on pain medication, the different types of pain medication, what you’ll need to do to prep the night before surgery etc. etc. We also had an opportunity to ask questions. I don’t think you’ll ever regret attending.
(I am in Washington USA).

PS we were encouraged to bring our caregiver, so they knew what to expect in terms of our post-op care.

joint class (in Scotland) is where they explain what's going to happen.....OT will be there and give you the raised toilet seat, grabber and shoe horn. they measure your legs to tell you what height is safe to sit on. give all practical advice and show post op exercises. surgeon will give talk on actual op and what to expect. all in all worth going to. good luck x

Thanks guys again for your input, thing is I've already been there got the t-shirt etc, had my TRHR last October 18. I've still got the raised toilet seat grabbing thing and feet for sofa / bed etc... didn't have the class last October, not too sure how helpful this would be after already been there etc, thanks again for your input..Stay Safe & Stay Happy.

Hi Pete, I went to Joint school a few weeks before my op. We were told about what to bring in to hospital, pain relief, physio etc., and they went through what needed to be ordered for us to use at home; raised loo seats etc. We could take someone with us if we wanted.
It was v informative, but I wouldn't think you needed to go when you've already had your other hip replaced so recently.
Obviously up to you though!

Hi. I just went to my HIP class yesterday and it was very informative. I learned about pain management and aftercare. Also found out about physical therapy while in hospital. Our hospital encourages you to bring a support person and you or them can ask any questions you might have. Good luck.

Pete,
My hubby came with me to joint class and validation where I met with the surgeon again to discuss any last minute questions and signed consent form.
The joint school explained the hips used allowed and us to inspect them. We then arranged for the recovery aids we needed after the op.
My joint class was two weeks before my op, validation the week before op.
