Pred for PMR and Propafenone for AT. Help !

Posted , 3 users are following.

I am taking 8mg daily for PMR.   I was diagnosed recently with Atrial Tachycardia for which I am taking 150 mg twice daily.  Two days ago my doc increased the dose and take 75mg at 2.00 pm.  I had awful side effects before the increase, but now they have become very difficult to cope with.  He wants me to decrease the 75mg to 371/2 to see if that helps.

This is really a question for Eileen as I believe she is on Propafenone for AF.  Did you have bad side effects when you first started.  I wonder if it worse because of being on steroids too.   If anyone else is also on both I would appreciate their input too.  I am seriously considering having an ablation because I cannot function like this.  But I am scared stiff of the thought of it.

Anyone who can help me please ?

Jan, I can't help regarding your medication but hopefully reassure you. I have PMR and AFib, the medication I was taking for the AFib made me feel awful and I had a lot of problems but after a couple of changes I am fine now so I think it is a case of trial and error with the medication, So see your Doctor and try something else.

    Hope you feel better soon.x

      Thanks Macas 02

hopefully when I see the EP on Monday he will put me on something else.  I know he is keen for me to have a catheter ablation, but I am a bit nervous about that.  Especially as I understand that a lot of people have to have a second or third one as the first one doesnt always

Sorry about that, it suddenly stopped printing !

to continue ... Doesnt always work.    I also have GERD and I think that also aggravates the heart.   Whenever I have the pain from GERD it seems to make the AT worse.

Jan I was offered an ablation (or at least to go on the waiting list!) 2 years ago. I decided against it and having read that others have had an ablation and have been worse or it has only lasted a short time I am pleased that I decided against it. Now my medication is working well I feel much better about the AFib, but I am going thru a flare with the PMR!! and thats been miserable.

I have just been in hospital for a few days as the propafenone was making me so ill.  I have been told now that my condition is not life threatening and that a catheter ablation is not the right procedure for me.  I have been taken off propafenone and put on Metropolol.   They also told me my condition is related to inflammation in my body and could be due to PMR.  Basically there is nothing they can do to help me and I have to learn to cope with it.  This is not easy, today It started at 7 this morning and it is now after 3 pm and hasnt stopped.

the only good news was that my heart is in excellent condition.  I am pleased that an ablation is not on the cards as I didnt want one at all.  I am not very happy that I could have to deal with this until I pop my clogs !

Jan I'm so sorry you are so unwell. I don't know the medication you're

on. Surely they can't just send you away and  not explain how you deal with it. I have afib which is well controlled at present, I had a lot of probs with medication which had to be changed  but I am tolerating the medication fine now. I'm sure Eileen will have some good advise for you..
