Prednisone

I was diagnosed with Labyrinthitis, the doctor gave me z pak and prednisone the last time, I took the pak but not the prednisone. The antibiotic seemed to work a little bit but then came back. I went back today and he told me in order to have the antibiotics work that I had to take the steroid. I am really nervous about taking it. I am nervous about taking pills in general but I can't deal with this dizziness, so I guess my question is has anyone taken prednisone and z pak together or at least prednisone and if so what are the side effects. Please and thank you.

I too have the dizziness going on 18 months and have had so many doctors I don't want to cound them all, and I would say this: My doctors never even once offered to give me an antibiotic nor a steroid, so I would say that your doctor(s) are at least being progressive about it.
As far as harm goes, depending upon your age, if you are young you might consider not taking steroids, especially if you have taken plenty already, but if not I would certainly use them as instructed. If you only just started the steroids they should not be that much of a threat to cause cancer, and they can degrade your immune system too, but that is how they work on your allergy symptoms, and I believe the latter is temporary.
The antibiotic however, is a completely different story and there is almost no harm done in taking them except an occasional Yeast infection if you are a woman, and when taken with the steroid enhances the effect. You must remember "Labs" is a shortened way of saying Labyrinthitis, and the "itis" means swelling and that is exactly what the steroid does best, stops the swelling.
FYI: The swelling is what is causing the damage and the Vertigo. If you had only a virus or bacteria invade your inner ear without the swelling, you probably wouldn't even know you had anything. The Antibiotic works to rid you of the invasion and the Steroid goes to work immediately reducing the swelling for immediate relief of damage.
I am happy to hear that you have such a progressive doctor willing to try something. My doctors, and I had pleny of them, never did anything of the sort. I even asked for Antibiotics and a strong anti swelling drug and got neither. I've had to just "tough it out", which takes medicine back 200 years, but I live in the States and our government runs (ruins) everything.
So I would say take them and take them exactly as prescribed to get the maximum effect out of them and count your lucky stars that you have doctors that will try to stop the damage even if there is some risk.
Side note: It may appear that I don't like my government. In fact I don't. They tax the U.S. citizens for everything but air, that is, until you stop working and try to retire. Then they want you to expire so they don't have to give any of the tax dollars back in the form of social security which includes medicine and care. Remember the Boston Tea Party ! Americans come from a robust group that left England for a brighter future and were thwarted and warred against for it. I am a remnant of that group. Long Live the Queen of England, but please keep your hands off of my Freedom.

Prednisone cured me for a year. Its back and I'm trying to get some more. They are careful with steroids. But they are a miracle drug so please just take the medication. It will help you.
