Prednisone storage in the freezer

Posted , 8 users are following.

I just read online information that you shouldn't freeze Prednisone.  I put a large amount of 5 mgs in unopened containers, wrapped in a plastic bag, in my freezer several months ago.   Does that mean they are now not good to use?

It very possibly does. the instructions for corticosteroids do all say to protect from freezing. You could ask your local pharmacist. I have searched, and while I can find a lot of work for higher storage temperatures than those recommended I can't find any for freezing.

Many drugs need to be kept dry, even at low humidity, and putting things in the freezer doesn't really comply with that. The drug itself may degrade and not be as effective.

Sorry - that is the best I can offer,

Thanks. More than enough information for me. The info on my probiotics bottle says to store in fridge ( not freezer ) after opening. I have been keeping it on the fridge door. However, not so sure if this is a good idea, and would appreciate your take this.

      Thanks

I'd have thought that was fine - but I am not 100% sure. It is in the fridge - not room temp and I suspect that is the criterion. Some probiotics nowadays are freeze-dried and they will be fine at room temp - but the instructions from the manufacturer are what to follow.
