prednisone wushy head

Hi, My primary just upped my pred dose from the initial 5mg to 7.5mg, and my head once again feels strange-I feel a little wushy or maybe a little high- it  is hard to describe-different anyway .  Is this a special time to take it easy?  Does this go away with time and you awake feeling normal?  My initial response is to lie down.

Prednisone is turning me into a morning person.  I was never ever a morning person, but now I can't sleep.  So I get up for awhile, lie down for awhile (especially when the wushy head strikes), and repeat.

Do I understand you correctly? Your doctor has decided you have PMR but started you at 5mg pred? That is a very low a dose to start with. The usual idea is to start at 15mg which deals with the symptoms quickly and then reduce to a maintenance dose. Studies have shown that 75% of patients will respond in a month to 12.5mg - people rarely respond well to low dose pred.

But yes, those are typical feelings with pred until you get used to it. And you are going about things quite well - if you can't sleep, learn to rest when you can.

Yes Eilene, Thanks for telling me these are that my funny head is part of the typical reactions to prednisone when first starting.  I have hopes of adapting soon.

I began initially on  5mg which doesn't seem to be recommended anywhere, but my initial diagnoser was by my cardiologist, not his speciaty.  Since then I have thought it was a rather good idea to start low- one can always go up, but from what I read, it is really hard to cut down.  And  5 mg did help somewhat.  Oddly, it helped most with my knees- shoulders still hurt, but not as much.  That was why I said I felt like the tinwoman of Oz after being partially oiled.  smile

yes i would say "wushy" head would be a good way to describe a very weird feeling that i have never had before prednIsone. Never heard that word before in the US where i am from  but think it descrtibes it.   I have been on prednisone for aboutt 8 months and started at 20 mg after 15 not being enough.  The wushy feeling does  get better i think and also you just get used to feeling different and your new normal.  I hope you get the  prednisone dosage bettter  adjusted so you will have less pain.

Wushy isn't really a proper word. I just made it up; it seemed appropriate when  describing the indescribable.  A wishy wooshy head  or something like that.  smile
