Pregabalin leads to depression

Hello! smile

I was prescribed to 150mg Venlafaxine a day. It was good for my depression. Helped many months. Then due to social anxiety my psychatrist prescribed Lyrica (4x400mg per day) additionaly. It helps really good for my anxiety. It's nearly as good as Diazepam. I like Lyrica and don't want to stop. But with adding Lyrica the depression got worse again. I have to find a new medication for my depression. Has anyone similar experiences with Lyrica? Can anyone help how to get out of depression again? Is there a preferencial drug fighting depression when takin Lyrica?

Thanks smile

That's a high doseage to start on straight away. I had to build up to see what level worked for me (for pain relief, not anxiety) maybe talk to your doctor and see if you can reduce the dose and see if it'll help then

Hi you shouldn't be taking1600mg per day because the maximon  daily dose for this stuff is 600mg no wonder you are feeling depressed

    Thanks for the answers!

Sorry it was a typing mistake... I take 4x100mg per day! (started with 2x75mg a day, but it was to less - had also problems with depression at this dose)

I'm assuming your dr has offered some kind of talking therapy along with the medication?

Are you still taking the Venlafaxine? I was on both and find venlafaxine the best thing for my own depression. But, be warned - coming off venlafaxine is one of the most difficult things you can do (make sure you get  week off work and someone else does too to make sure you are not alone to go through the main withdrawal period). No one prepared me for it until I thought I was dying and looked on here.

I don't know if Pregablin works for me. I have always taken it while being on another drug. If it works for you then you know that you have to stick with the pregablin and perhaps ask for a drug like Venlafaxine if it worked for you. Of there is Citalopram, Sertraline and may more tried and tested drugs with good levels of information about them and the side affects. There are other newer meds with less information that are also available.

My only advice would be make sure a qualified and experienced psychatrist helps you get your meds right and not a GP.

Remember one day you will feel stable and better and then you can consider a drug free life. Fingers cross I will be drug free one day too

    Thanks for your help!

@mancguy: I already did a talking therapy for my social anxiety about two years ago. It was a bit helpful for a few months. But after a few bad experiences and also with stoping escitalopram this time all the improvements of CBT disappeared. Maybe I start a talking therapy for depression, but I'm not that fan of it, because I think it can not vanish my problems (as good as drugs do)

@LizzieR361: I'm regularly visiting a qualified psychatriest. But I'm also interested in experiences of patients who use this combination. So it's really interesting to read how different this drugs work to everyone.

Venlafaxine was also good for me before adding pregabalin.

I'll ask my psychatrist next time to switch the antidepressant. Maybe I'll take duloxetine, as it was helpful in former times. hopefully the pregabalin is not stronger again and vanishes the effects of the antidepressant.

@toodlepip: You nearly take the same medication as I do! How do you experience it?

And now: Good luck to all!

well the venlafax has been kept at 225 mg for a while, and the pregab dose doubled to 400 mg based on how i was at the psychiatric consultation. i'm not as stable as i was say last year, still get upset/ crying/ and afraid, and mentally confused, disorientated. i have an appointment with a clinical psychologist tomorrow- i'm apprehensive, even unkeen because my mental state is so weak, vulnerable. please share!
