I use to be on 600 m.g. daily, I put on weight, but they try to tell you, you won't. Speak to anyone that can advise you on the weight issue I would.

It does alter your taste buds and you tend to crave sugar with it. It's not the drugs themselves unfortunately.

Hi Denise, I have been on pregablin for 5 years and gained over 5 stone in weight. I was on 600mg a day but have managed over the last 5 months to half that to 300mg a day i have started to loose some of the weight but it is a big problem. The weight is not the only issue with this drug it also alters the chemistry in your brain and coming off it is a really difficult. I am just about to take my next leap down to 200mg a day and hopefully the weight loss will continue but it takes a good 6 weeks for my body to adapt to the lower doses and this is not something that i can cope with any quicker as i am still working full time and this is hard enough. Please be aware that although the weight goes on very very quickly it does take a long time to come off. Your tastes do change very much, i never had a sweet tooth in my life nor had i changed dress sizes since my 20's (now 43) until i started on pregablin. I know these do help some people an awful lot but you only have to check the statistics of how much the presciptions of these have increased in the last few years to see that they are being touted as a wonderdrug and handed out like sweeties with little or no warning of the huge problems a lot of people have faced when trying to come off these. I still dont see how a drug you take as precribed by your GP can set you up for an addiction that needs careful management to come off. I have never been addicted to anything in my life yet i feel like an addict because it has taken me 5 months of living hell and i have even more to face. To everyone on this site please be careful with this drug as there is still so much unknown about how it affects the brain and brain chemistry.

100% agreement with Michele. While I never had the weight gain, I've been on Lyrica (pregabalin) for close to a decade. Its taken me almost a year to reduce dosage from 225mg to 48mg a day and its been sheer hell every step. Docs say the drug is addictive but its just sematics they're playing as this drug deficetly comes wtih a very harsh withdrwal syndrome that lasts a very long time for some patients. What's more, the postive effects of this drug tend to wear off over time. Like Michele, it takes me about 6 weeks before I can drop my dose down and still keep working and I'm only reducing by 10% each time.

That's a side effect from it one that I suffered also and can't afford to with lower back probs and small in height at 5ft. Although it's good for anxiety it does have its draw backs another is trying to get off it.
