Pregablin for anxiety.

Has anyone been put on pregablin for anxiety?? I had bad reactions to ssris so docs have gave me pregablin, I'm terrified of taking it due to reactions from other meds, think it's gave me a phobia of tablets, even tho I want to feel better more then anything in this world, I just hear loads of people saying it makes you feel drunk, depersonalised etc and I've got two young kids to look after, one of them disabled with catheters so obviously I can't feel dizzy too much incase something happens to her catheters and I need to sort them out as I'm the only one medically trained to do them. Any help as I'm petrified of taking more tablets?! Also they put me on 75mg twice a day, but thinking of just trying one a day when and if I dare take them, I've had them since Thursday and just don't know what to do. I do take diazepam, are the side effects as bad as them?? Like dizzyness etc Coz I can cope with them. Im also on meds for an overactive thyroid and calcium channel blockers for a high heart rate caused by thyrotoxicosis a few weeks back. Tia

    Hi Charlie

?I have read all your comments and taken on board your reactions to various medications - in my opinion you should steer clear of Pregabalin and not start taking them. Within one week of taking them they will alter your brain chemistry causing side effects differing from patient to patient. Very few get away with none. Then, if you want to get off them the withdrawals can be a nightmare - never go cold turkey as this can and does cause seizures for some. They have to be tapered off very slowly indeed, yet GP's think you can either just stop or go down in 25mg to 50mg increments at a time. NO, when I say slowly I mean max 10% at a time waiting to stabilise between drops for at least a week or much longer. Many Pregabalin users (given by script) are in a waking nightmare. Please do as much research as you can before making your final decision, but as you seem not to like the idea of starting them at all I would go with your gut reaction. You need your wits about you in your daily life and this drug can cause brain fog, memory loss, loss of balance, a feeling of not being 'present' and many more. This is only my opinion as someone on this drug trying hard to come off slowly and carefully. My withdrawals are still unpleasant even though I am going very slowly.

?I do also know that initially it may seem to help anxiety but then you may hit a wall and the reverse happens - you need more and more of them up to the max of 600mg daily to get the same effect and then you are lost, deep in Anxiety yet again and possibly even worse than before taking them.

?I hope very much that you are able to come to the right decision for yourself and wish you well. If you need any further information I will be happy to help you. Liz

Hi Charlie there is a website than I admin called lyrica survivors . Please feel free to join . Every thing Elizabeth said is spot on . It's a terrible drug to withdraw from .. And in my opinion shouldn't be prescribed for anxiety . My gosh I started having anxiety panic attacks thanks to this drug something I'd never suffered with before
