Pregnancy after myomectomy for multiple fibroids removal

Hi Ladies,

I am 35 years old & have been diagnosed with multiple fibroids around 15 fibroids of different sizes. I am planning to conceive in future. I am considering going for a myomectomy but so far after talking to few OBGYN it doesn't sound promising. All of them mentioned that there is a lot of risk to remove multiple fibroids & pregnancy after myomectomy will be challenging. I feel disheartened hearing that as I really want to conceive & start a family. I wanted to hear from you all to see if anyone has been in such a situation & was able to have healthy pregnancy after the surgery?

I would really appreciate if you can share your experiences. I am really looking for some positive hope to go through the surgery.

Thanks in advance

    Hi pearlgal18

Like every operation myomectomies come with a risk however many women have had myomectomies and conceived successfully. I have just had one 4 weeks ago and hoping to conceive in 5 months. My sister had a myomectomy as well to remove multiple fibroids and has now got 2 amazing kids. Try not to worry about it and believe me you will be very happy you had it done.

    All the best!

Thanks for the encouragement. Hope you recover soon. Good luck to you. Hope you conceive soon. I guess I am just worried since I have many fibroids. Most of the experiences I have read are of women with 4-6 fibroids. I hope that doesn't cause issues in my case.

I had a myomectomy in 2016 and I'm now 15 weeks pregnant at age 41. My fibroid was so large it blocked my tubes so my only chance of conceiving was to have an open myomectomy. I thought my age was against me too but it worked!

is there a reason why all these doctors are only suggesting myomectamy and not UFE? The UFE is much less invasive, it basically blocks blood flow to the fibroid. YES there are risks, but since myomectamy is better for those patients who only have one big fibroids, instead in your case would be to cut allllll those 15 fibroids, it might be good to look into UFE. It might just shrink them all at once and zero incisions. Pregnancy after either myo or UFE has similar percentage of success, so why exclude UFE just because doctors get paid for doing myo's (which is their true reason for suggesting this)
